Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 01, 2009 8:40 am Hi everyone, I have just discovered this forum and am looking forward to spending some time here as we build our new house. We have a rural block on a hill, with a lovely view over a valley to the South-West. We've had to compromise a bit on the northern light in order to take advantage of the view, unfortunately. Some background on us....we're a married couple with plans for two kids in the next few years. We have horses and my husband has a lot of fishing, camping and music gear, so we need quite a lot of storage space. Looking forward to getting to know you all Cheers, Cooramin Re: Our house plans 3Jul 01, 2009 8:54 am Hi there and welcome. Your land sounds wonderful and peaceful. Love the plan, especially the verandah's. A suggestion which we did on our plans also would be to remove the 3rd toilet and extend the storage space (I decided two toilets were enough to clean ) Saying that you have allowed for alot ample storage, just a thought. How many sqs is the house, it looks generous in size. Its all fun and games for you now Good luck. Re: Our house plans 4Jul 01, 2009 9:07 am Very nice. Love all the outdoor space. Perfect for large blocks. Where will North, south, east, west be? Which side will face the road? Looking foward to seeing the elevations. Building the Pl@ntation Retreat on 4009m2. All moved in!!!!!! Now for the real work https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20588&p=285640#p285640 Re: Our house plans 5Jul 01, 2009 9:21 am Hi Mundie Mansion, thanks for your comments. We're actually planning on moving the third toilet to the storage area near the laundry, so we have one large store room rather than two small ones. Because we have a fairly outdoorsy lifestyle with the horses, we want to have a toilet that's easily accessed form outside without tracking too much dirt through the house (I take my boots off, but can't get my hubby to do it often enough! I imagine the kids will be worse!). At this stage the living space is about 28 squares, but the garage and verandahs add another 20 squares, so it totals about 48 squares under the roof. I am terrified to get the quotes! Seast, the living area/patio will face south-east, looking over the valley and the road down the front (we'll be about 250 metres back from the road). I seem to have reached my board attachment quota with my first post, so can't show you the front elevation at this stage... Re: Our house plans 6Jul 01, 2009 9:32 am Hi Cooramin, your house plans look great, I love the amount of storage you'll have Board quota seems to be a bit of a bother for most of us lol, you might try using http://www.photobucket.com or http://www.imageshack.us/ to store your pictures Re: Our house plans 7Jul 01, 2009 9:35 am Our house is 28 sqs of living also which is a great size (we have 3 girls under 9). That is a great idea to move the toilet and I totally can relate to hubby's not taking boots off indoors Will look forward to keeping up with your progress Re: Our house plans 8Jul 01, 2009 9:47 am What a great plan! Here's my 2c... I'd make sure I could see the views from the spa in the ensuite... I would just sit in there all evening with a glass (bottle or two) of champagne and take in the views... Re: Our house plans 9Jul 01, 2009 12:58 pm first up, LOVE the kitchen setup... my wife would love to have a round bench! good spot for the linen nice open deck at the back loads of storage! i take it the studio is for the cinema room? which way is facing north? 2nd-Fix | Blog Building with Desyn Homes previously with the insolvent Endeavour Homes Re: Our house plans 10Jul 01, 2009 1:07 pm Heya Cooramin, Really love the house, I love the verandahs, deck and patio - it makes for a practical area outside and inside - especially for the outdoorsy family. I really like the kitchen placement too - it's destined to be the hub of the house which is lovely. Glad your moving the toliet as it was visable while at the stove. Storage is excellent , love the handbasin / toliet setup in the bathroom area - it's well thought out. I wouldn't change a thing, however I would suggest considering getting a skylight over the kitchen - just to add some light as with the verandah's it's likely to be a bit dull. Good luck, it'll be a nice warm, family home. Building Upside down house in Wantirna VIC Current Stage: Procrastination... it's just all too hard.... Re: Our house plans 12Jul 01, 2009 2:45 pm I'm glad to hear that 28 squares of living space works well for a family. We didn't want to get too enormous, but want it to be generous enough to be comfortable and never too small. Aaron4erin, we're on the same wavelength about the spa! We're definitely having a window at spa level! The studio is going to be multi-purpose. It will be my husband's music room, as he plays in a band, plus it will also be the guest bedroom (with a fold-out sofa I guess), cinema room and possible future kids play room. We decided against a second living area, as we like the idea of us all spending time together in the one large living area. Hels, we're in Wagga Wagga, NSW. Thanks for the feedback everyone It's great to hear that others like it s much as we do! Really tight at the top of the stairs- how to get furniture into those rooms?
