Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 29, 2009 9:39 pm I have started my build, and I am very happy with how things are going, but like others there are a few things I wished I could change, that continues to give me sleepless nights. I really wished that I had included a 'rainflush' or 'tankflush' system in my house whereby rain water harvested from the roof can be stored in a tank and used for flushing toilets and for the washing machine. I know my builder quoted me about 3-4k (can't remember the exact amount) during tender and I took it out. Now I wished that I paid the money and had it included as it is very difficult to retrofit the system. If I could have my time again, I may also consider having my house plumbed, 'grey water ready'. This all has particularly annoyed me since the Vic state gov. announced water bills would be increasing by up to 60% to pay for more infrastructure! I plan to have rain water tanks installed for use on my gardens but I really wish that I don't plan on having a garden that will use a lot of water, so I wish that I could use some of that water for my toilet. Sorry for the rant, but it did has annoyed me a little, and I strongly urge anyone who has yet to sign to consider including this in your contract. On another note, does anyone know if it is possible (and what cost) it would be to retrofit a system like this? My plumbing has already been done, bricking almost complete and about to start plastering. I know the builder will not let me make any changes at this time of the build. Built in now city 2009, now moving to the country to embark on another build. I'm also building with PD and we are just getting the plumbing put in to the two toilets ready for when we fit the tank after handover. This option cost $450. I know that is of no help to you Jas 'n' Rach , but may be of interest to others that see this thread to know there is an option if the budget doesn't extend to installing everything initially. But see if you can do something unofficially..... chat to your SS. The plumber that has already done your plumbing may come back for a cashie?? Worth a try before your plaster goes in......
