Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Final inspection tomorrow: Any tips? 2Jun 30, 2009 8:15 pm Hi,I'm still in pre-construction stage but a friend of mine who built recently advised me to(if & when my house actually gets done-yawn); *turn on every tap (run the hot taps until the water gets hot) *flush toilets 1/2 flush then full (make sure the water cuts off when the cistern is filled and no water keeps trickling out afterwards) *turn on every light switch (dont forget the outside ones,too) *bring a hair dryer with you and run it on EVERY power outlet (dont forget outside powerpoints & garage) *turn on every part of your cooktop/oven dishwasher etc *open and close every door,including robes etc *make sure the circuit breaker works *run a hose on the roof to see if the gutters drain properly and to see if the downpipes are good i think there were a few more points but i cant remember (getting a little bit blonder as i'm getting a little bit older). I also plan to check that all powerpoints and light switches are straight and level. My friends paid a considerable amount of $ for extra insulation in their internal walls. They made a point of driving past every night and having a 'stickybeak'. The gyprocking was all done internally,but there were the holes in the walls waiting for the light switches to be fitted.Hubby shone a torch in to see the 'inside' of the walls and guess what?-NO INSULATION in any of of the walls at all! They were not happy and its safe to say they let their builder 'have it'. It makes me wonder how many builders have snuck through the 'radar'? It is not too uncommon for walls not to be straight, especially in hallways.
