Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 13, 2007 2:33 am Just a word of warning to anyone building a house, and using beaumont tiles, we went for our selections bout 6months ago, colour coordinated all the tiles in the house, the house is now two weeks from lock up and we get a call to notify us that one of the tiles we chose is no longer in stock, we went in and low and behold nothing on offer matched what we chose, so now we have two areas that dont quite match the rest of the house...you would think that since they make you choose so far in advance that they would put what you choose aside....yet another stuff up to add to the other 14 major errors we have had since our initial walk through 9 months ago.. Re: beaumont tiles 2May 13, 2007 8:03 am I think some responsibility here needs to fall back to the builder also.....
Why didn't they order the tiles 6 months ago?? Matt Re: beaumont tiles 3May 13, 2007 3:33 pm dont know for their part beaumont offered us higher range tiles at no extra cost, however they didnt match...i dont doubt for a second that the builder ******** have some blame, i asked the lady at beaumont and she said they never work that way....poor management if you ask me Re: beaumont tiles 4May 14, 2007 4:46 pm Cash Flow.
Sounds to me like the builder didn't want an invoice from the supplier before he needed them, (ie helped his cash flow) you pay him your progress payments, he doesn't spend it for a few months) You can't blame the supplier for selling out, (in this case the tile seller) for not holding stock on hand at their expense, just because you want them in 6 months time. It's really a case of order them, pay for them or at least a significant deposit, or you will potentially lose them. My thoughts. They might be wrong, but that's what comes to mind as to why? Steve Re: beaumont tiles 5May 14, 2007 6:15 pm The question is when did you pay the invoice?
I have had my appointment with them about 3 months ago, and they sent me an invoice within a month or so. The invoice was for the extra cost that my tiles incurred over and above the Builder's range. There was also some labour extra cost due to porcelain tiles being chosen. They told me the labour part of it is to be paid to tbe builder, while the tiles part of the extra cost goes to them. But given that I am only about to start the building process I haven't paid the invoice yet. But I would think that once I do pay, they should put those tiles aside or something like that. Otherwise what am I paying for? In your case, could the builder allow you to use other supplier for those areas given they are partly to blame? Or can you leave those areas tile free, and finish it off yourself after handover, with the tiles and labour cost deducted from your contract? Re: beaumont tiles 7May 15, 2007 1:30 pm longneck we havent paid anything, as its part of the standard package, we cant add or take things out... We have chosen the tiles that cost us additional 4k to the standard package. I have not yet paid the 4k, and thanks to your post I will endevour to make sure that when I do pay, the tiles will be in stock when I need them. Re: beaumont tiles 8May 15, 2007 11:06 pm So they have checked their warehouses all over the country? Ihad friends that had similar issues with them, run out of stock, low stock, no stock. They eventually got some from QLD and the rest from SA, took ages but they got them in the end. Delayed the handover of the house which was the worse thing.
What stage of construction are you at? If push comes to shove, hold off paying a stage claim until it is sorted out. That usually brings things to a head. Only works if your builder has played a part in the process though (sounds like it, if it was a packaged deal). Have them (the builder) do the strong arming with the supplier for you. I know that it doesn't help, but see if you can select a higher grade of tile for no additional cost - too help ease your pain. If you don't ask, you don't get.
