That is going to be great having a new year start, it will be here before you know it Re: Our Coral 'Hamilton 278'-Tiling question 103Dec 02, 2009 9:15 pm Ok everyone just wanted to ask a question regarding tiling. Have any of you done anything different with your tiling? Examples coloured grout, half or full wall tiling, diagonal floor tiling, extra height tiling etc I'm just wondering because these are some things I'd really like to be done but just not sure how much the tiler is going to charge. Has anyone asked their tiler at all and gotten some general prices? Also, I have noticed it's very common for everyone to use white tiles in the shower recess and bathroom areas. Is there a reason for this at all? Because I really don't like the basic white tiles and want to go with something different. Thanks Re: Our Coral 'Hamilton 278'-Tiling question 104Dec 02, 2009 9:40 pm hey renee - i can only help with a littlebit of this, i also looked into having coloured grout - my tiler gave me a sheet to look at that had about 20 different grout colours on there - he told me it would cost no extra to have a different coloured grout, but on his reccomendation i decided to stay with normal light grey sanded grout. In regards to extra height tiling, my tiler charged me nothing to do the extra 2 rows of 10 x 30 tiles in the laundry, and charged me $50.00 extra to tile my little tiles behind the rangehood on the kitchen splashback. Each tiler is going to charge differently though hopefully you get a nice one! 2014 - Prepping to build the Soho 4 with Plantation homes, industrial style 2009 - Built the Brampton with Coral Homes viewtopic.php?f=31&t=15399&start=280 Re: Our Coral 'Hamilton 278'-Tiling question 105Dec 03, 2009 7:31 pm Hi Renee I have paid about $250 extra for all my extra tiling, but I have had alot of extra, eg 2 high put the whole way around above my laundry sink and 2 the end as I eventually want to put a worktop in there. Also had the shower ones extended to the ceiling and they are 9ft ceilings. I am having a brick effect with mosaics top and bottom in kitchen and they have done heaps of extra tiling and features in both bathrooms, so I am really happy with that. They have been really good and very accommodating. We had lots of spare tiles so I made use of them!! Just uploading pics of some of tiling now if you want to have a look. Still needs grouting so will look even better when finished. I am really happy with what they have done. Karen Karen Building coral Hamilton 252 on sunshine coast Re: Our Coral 'Hamilton 278'-Tiling question 106Dec 03, 2009 9:09 pm We have decided to get diagonal tiling on our main floor. We are not getting C0ral to do this because we felt that they charged too much for tiling overall ($85psqm). We are getting a tiler to do the diagonal tiles plus a fancy feature near the entrance for $31psqm including all materials except the tiles themselves. We talked to heaps of places and the cost varied enormously. We think that the diagonal tiling makes the place feel bigger which is why we wanted to do it this way. Hope that gives you an idea of price Building the Coral Baroness 274 Check out our blog www.ourbaroness.blogspot.com Re: Our Coral 'Hamilton 278'-Tiling question 107Dec 05, 2009 11:11 pm walker79 Have any of you done anything different with your tiling? We had the entry tiled at a 45 degree. Cost us $80 for the tiler & Coral said that they would cover the materials free of charge. We didn't use white tiles in the bathrooms....at all I don't think. It's just personal preference I guess. Coloured grout - our tiler would supply either grey or white......anything else you had to supply yourself. Understandable........."I said I wanted Fuscia!!! This is Fuscia!!!! No it's not......it's pink!!!!! Well, what the hell is Fuscia!!!!" Re: Our Coral 'Hamilton 278'-Tiling question 108Dec 09, 2009 3:23 pm Thanks Jess, Kaz, juljas and LC for your info We have our Tiles appt on Friday and our Colour Finishes appt on Tuesday. So it's all getting very exciting for us here at the moment. Still at the Certifier's at the moment and then to council I assume. So we probably won't be out of council till the new year now I'd say. P.S. LC how is your beautiful new house going? And your new bubba? Can we please have an update yet? Pleaseeee Re: Our Coral 'Hamilton 278'-Tiling question 109Dec 09, 2009 3:53 pm No probs Renee If your building application is already with the certifier then your plumbing and drainage application will also be with the council right now to yay!!!! 2014 - Prepping to build the Soho 4 with Plantation homes, industrial style 2009 - Built the Brampton with Coral Homes viewtopic.php?f=31&t=15399&start=280 Re: Our Coral 'Hamilton 278' 110Dec 12, 2009 8:38 am Jess09 No probs Renee If your building application is already with the certifier then your plumbing and drainage application will also be with the council right now to yay!!!! Thanks Jess, good to know. So when should I start ringing Council to hassle them?? Update-We had our tiles appointment yesterday and it was an extremely painful experience! Firstly something we didn't know about Beaumont Tiles (Strathpine) is that they are the ONLY Beaumont store to engage an Interior Designer to "help" you with your final selections. Initially we were going to go to Beaumont's at Loganholme as we were told they may have a better range but decided to go to the local one because of convenience (big mistake on our part). So we had been to the store on three occasions prior trying to decide what our final decisions would be. We had it all sorted out apart from feature tiles. So we make the appt and she tells me it should take approx 1-1.5hrs (we figure it shouldn't take too long as we already have all our selections worked out). So we get a friend to watch the kids and off we go. When we get there the designer is still with a previous client, so we wait.....for a half an hour. So not happy about that (thinking of our friend watching the kids). Then this 'designer', although a very nice lady, proceeds to go into autopilot and "help" us, without asking us any questions. Like, did we already have any selections in mind, what sort of tiles were we looking for..etc etc. She basically talked and we listened and when I did go to talk or comment she just cut me off and kept on talking. It felt like it was dragging on and on and on. I kept thinking about the kids and our friend and how she was coping and the fact that we said we would only be 1.5hrs. So in the end some of her ideas were helpful but we still ended up picking the exact same tiles we were originally going to select. The only difference is I've axed my original kitchen laminex choices and gone with one of the other choices I had. The appt took 2hrs and the half hour we were kept waiting. We were both unhappy about the experience but happy with our final selections and glad we only have to do that once. On Tuesday we have Colour selections with Coral, so hopefully that is a better experience. On a side note the New Coral display homes at GRIFFIN are opening on this Monday 14th December!!! So you should definitely check them out (apparently they are beautiful inside). We are renting just around the corner in that estate and have been watching them all come together. There's a two storey Barbados 344A and a single storey Stradbroke 251. I'll be seeing them myself on Tuesday when we do our selections there. Thanks for listening Re: Our Coral 'Hamilton 278' 111Dec 12, 2009 9:59 am Hehehehehe Renee, you made me laugh when I read your post because it reminded me of trying to do our tile selections. My partner and I spent hours at Beaumonts trying to choose and ended up having a massive arguement in the store. Soooooooo embarrassing. I swear we almost broke up in Beaumonts! In the end, I had to take my dad to the final appointment because I was finding the whole thing waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too painful. Glad you are happy with your choices though. Post some piccies please Now to the fun part.....the colour selections and building. YIPEE! I will hopefully post some photos of tiles and all other colour selections after we have our appt with Coral tomorrow Re: Our Coral 'Hamilton 278' 113Dec 15, 2009 2:08 pm So we had our colour selections today and it all went pretty well We made a few changes to some ideas we had and we upgraded a couple of things. The only really, really disappointing thing to come out of it was that Coral flat out refuse to do 'Squareform' benchtops. I was soooo pi$$ed off but I was kind of expecting it. I had already prepared myself for not being able to have it if the upgrade amount was too much. But I just got a flat out NO, then I realised the colour I had picked could only be squareform and so I had to pick a totally different colour. In the end I was happy with the final selections. Now we'll have to see how they all come together. I will post some pics in the next few days. Still no word from council and haven't heard from Coral lately either. Re: Our Coral 'Hamilton 278' 114Dec 15, 2009 10:17 pm oh dear renee... that must have been a bit disapointing, what colour did you end up picking? If it helps at all the normal benchtops in my laundry still look really good and you did think they were square form... 2014 - Prepping to build the Soho 4 with Plantation homes, industrial style 2009 - Built the Brampton with Coral Homes viewtopic.php?f=31&t=15399&start=280 Re: Our Coral 'Hamilton 278' 115Dec 18, 2009 3:23 pm Ok so I have some pics of all our final colour selections. I wish I had thought about adding a toilet in the front part of the house. Too late now though, Re: Our Coral 'Hamilton 278'-Colour Selections & Plans 118Dec 20, 2009 8:28 am Looking good Renee. You've done really well with your colour selections, I love those nice neutral colours. I'm so jealous of your powder room/toilet at the front of the house Re: Our Coral 'Hamilton 278'-Colour Selections & Plans 119Dec 20, 2009 9:12 am Very nice Cant wait to see it come together Think we have the same (or very similar) kitchen splashback tile as you. Wish we had them laid like bricks, would have looked much better. Very good choice on your part. I still like what we have though so no biggie Building the Coral Baroness 274 Check out our blog www.ourbaroness.blogspot.com Re: Our Coral 'Hamilton 278'-Colour Selections & Plans 120Dec 21, 2009 10:31 am gorgeous colours renee - it's going to look awesome, can't wait to see it all come together! 2014 - Prepping to build the Soho 4 with Plantation homes, industrial style 2009 - Built the Brampton with Coral Homes viewtopic.php?f=31&t=15399&start=280 Ask the council if there is a chance of getting build over easement exemption. Sometimes easements are unused and 24cm is not all that much. Good luck. And yes any builder… 2 13938 In Qld it is a requirement that a builder must have a cost breakdown, for building a home to the same specification, with the same inclusions and the same finish. So ask… 1 4364 It seems very clear to me that your contract states that a security account does NOT need to be established so the answer to the builder is NO. If in doubt find a contract… 1 8541 |
