At least you have a few options with those window... either make them small and higher, or use obscure glazing. Did you have a chance to nick a brick from our site? Re: Building the NBG Buckingham36 in Laurimar Doreen 42Nov 20, 2009 12:29 pm Hi, we had the same issue with our library window. We went as far as to check with our council surveyors and after much umming and ahhing and measuring of our prelim plans, basically told us it was a line ball call. Some buiilding surveyors will issue a permit with no change required and some won't. One alternative put to us by council (apart from using obscured glass windows) was to put trellises along the offending fence line. Hope the window issue goes in your favour! Re: Building the NBG Buckingham36 in Laurimar Doreen 44Nov 20, 2009 9:15 pm We had similar issues with the windows in the family area upstairs. We had to get them obscured...but they look fantastic as they are ceiling to floor windows and lets lots of natural light in. All will be well goondog...glad to see that you're progressing...this part is the hardest...once they start you'll be NBG Buckingham36 Laurimar Doreen - Still Nothing 45Jan 06, 2010 8:53 am Well just before xmas we had a heap of issues with the builders trying to get a surveyor to come and check out our block before xmas holidays. What a disaster as all they kept going on about was the bloody window overlooking the neighbours. So I got our neighbour to write a letter saying they didn't care whether there was obscure glass or not and hopefully this has fixed the problems. The surveyor finally got there on the 22nd of Dec and has signalled a go ahead so hopefully we should have things starting in a couple of weeks. Got a call from the neighbour on Monday and someone broke our water metre so it was leaking heaps, called the builder who is on holidays so he said he can't fix it. Called yarra valley water whom had a winge but finally said they would get someone there within 5 days to fix it. Thank god. I wonder what else can happen???? Re: Building the NBG Buckingham36 in Laurimar Doreen 47Jan 11, 2010 11:46 am Hey Erin, Thanks for offering to fix it. Apparently they had to replace the whole meter as it was faulty. They did it on Thursday, but I have no idea how long the water was leaking from it. Could have been ages. Your place is looking great. Drove by the other day. Can't believe the front door hopefully it will all be fixed soon Caine & Sarah's NBG Buckingham 36 View my thread here: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=19894 View all photos here: http://caineandsarah.blogspot.com Re: Building the NBG Buckingham36 in Laurimar Doreen 48Jan 11, 2010 12:46 pm goondog Hey Erin, Thanks for offering to fix it. They have levelled off most of the block, dug out the garage and marked where the slab edges are. Woo HOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He said they should be laying the slab on Monday or Tuesday... woo hoo we have progress. I have actually started to get excited about the house now. I'm gonna go check out the display home again this weekend so I can find out how many more canvas prints I need to buy in Bali. So envious! We have a massive canvas of a Buddha that we bought for $150 at Jeff's shed a few years ago, it's about 1.5m x 2.0m. I'm looking for more... found a great place in Greensborough... and Loot in Sth Morang is good too. Authentic artwork from it's original destination is always the best though! Building the NBG Buckingham36 in Laurimar Doreen - Slab Down 55Feb 04, 2010 10:38 am So we had our meeting on Monday morning and the slab was laid later that day. Builder said that he can't give us a finish date yet but most likely in Spring some time I don't mind that much but I did think we'd be in much earlier than that. Hoping to go by tonight and get some photos to put up for you all to see. Spring...? that's a little vague... September is completely inconvenient due to footy finals... I guess October is ok... but that's a long wait... November definately not because of spring carnival. How many build days in your contract? Yay to have one more build in progress to check out on our visits!! Re: Building the NBG Buckingham36 in Laurimar Doreen 57Feb 09, 2010 10:59 am I just received an email from our builder saying that our Building Surveyors have confirmed with Council that we need to do an official application for Dispensation to Council due to our overlooking window (even though we have a letter from our neighbour stating that they don't have any issues with the window). The cost to do this is going to be $459 or if we lodge it ourselves not through the surveyor it will cost us $217.50. So so annoying, I'm now thinking we should probably just get the obscure glass and be done with it as if we pay the $459 and it gets knocked back we will have to fork out even more mone So annoyed right now. We have the same predicament in that our drawing measurements for the garage are wrong (don't ask long story) and if we change them thru the surveyor its 600+ but if we do it ourselves 250+ and it may get knocked back so what choice do you have?! Hope it works out ok for you. Building the NBG Buckingham36 in Laurimar - Bricks & Photos 59Feb 19, 2010 11:50 am So the slab is complete, bricks have started on the garage, front entrace pillars and alfresco pillars to head height. I haven't been up this week but appently they have nearly completed the frame on the ground floor Still waiting to here from council in regards to the overlooking window but we do have to lodge a dispensation so that's annoying. For photos see my blog. I am actually starting to get excited now, it feels like things have taken ages to even just get to this point. I took a few shots (check out the blog). Noticed that at the front of the house the slab is too short and the frame hangs over, took plenty of shots of this (incase there are any issues), but at the back of the block the slab is longer than the frame. Not sure what they do about this? Hopefully things will keep moving along.
