Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 23, 2009 10:49 am We have an alfresco area that is concreted. The builder is putting pavers on top of the concrete (40mm depth). The weep holes of the wall abutting the concrete currently go from concrete height upwards about 5cm. Once the pavers go on top of the concrete, the weep hole will be mostly closed off by the paver - what happens then re the weep holes? Re: Weep Holes: What happens when paving covers them up? 2Jun 23, 2009 6:49 pm You dont need weep holes in a roofed area, the weep holes are supposed to let out any water that gets into the cavity via the brickwork but seeing as how its a roofed area the water wont get in there. Re: Weep Holes: What happens when paving covers them up? 3Jun 23, 2009 7:42 pm Brickie - thank you for your reply.... Even though our alfresco is roofed, a couple of times when we've visited the site after heavy rain, there has been a few cms of water pooled in the corner - against the brick wall with the weep holes. Mind you, the paving will probably be angled away from the house so that water drains off.... but we do get rain coming into the area at times. Re: Weep Holes: What happens when paving covers them up? 4Jun 23, 2009 9:44 pm ostish, you have two separate issues there. The water ponding is most likely due to water coming in through the alfresco opening and staying there because the fall isnt correct on the alfresco floor. I do not suspect that the water is coming in from the weep hole. Also even if they were needed (although they probably are not) you are allowed to cover 50% of the weep holes from memory. Dont know if they still allow that. Perhaps someone else can confirm this if it helps ease your worry. However Even with out a photo i am pretty sure you dont need weep holes in alfresco as brickie has already mentioned. Re: Weep Holes: What happens when paving covers them up? 5Jun 24, 2009 9:50 am Thanks for that. Yes - the water is coming from the alfresco opening (via rain), not from the weep holes. I feel a little more relaxed about things now - but I will remind the builder to ensure the pavers are sloped so that water drains off. it depends on the natural ground level, if they excavated their boundary wall needed to be built as a retaining wall. If you filled, which sounds like the case then you… 1 7074 I know foam has been around since the 90's and CSR started manufacturing Hebel in 1989, so it's definitely possible 5 5420 You are correct. Just read through all the ncc rules and 75mm is the minimum requirement for me. 4 11145 |
