Browse Forums Building A New House Re: start date, woohoo 121Jul 18, 2010 10:28 am I'm not sure about the bag and paint. I think it kind of looks like cement and don't think the colour of the house matches the roof at all. We are getting plantation shutters in all the main living areas then wooden shutter blinds in the bedrooms and bathrooms. They will be white. I have no idea about the carpet. I'm happy you got to see your neighbours. It's such a relief when they turn out to be normal isn't it!! Hmmm, I wonder waht ours think of us?!?! Re: start date, woohoo 122Jul 19, 2010 7:52 pm Your house is going to look amazing with the plantation shutters. I loooove plantation shutters - they're so elegant and classy, I just love them so much!! I don't think our budget allows for them at the moment so I will just have to admire yours!! Re: start date, woohoo 123Jul 19, 2010 8:00 pm I reeeaaally wanted a surfmist colourbond roof but knew I would have to choose between that and the shutters! In the end, I figured I would see the shutters more. Guess I will find out if that was a good choice soon. Guess I can admire your roof and you can admire my shutters. If only we all had money trees! Re: start date, woohoo 125Jul 25, 2010 5:47 pm Hey will i haven't driven past your house lately - we've barely been out to ours in the past couple of weeks - lol. We're getting a driveway quote done tomorrow afternoon - hope it's a pleasant surprise on cost and not Are you happy with your outside paint colour now? I sometimes tend to find that things grow on me. Some things i haven't liked first time around and then when I go back I like it - weird!! Has your house been painted internally yet? And have you guys got a date for PCI yet? Re: start date, woohoo 126Jul 27, 2010 2:42 pm hellooooooooo the internal paint is being started today or tomorrow, costing $200 for the changes in colour we are making heh. I'm still not convinced i made the right choice about the colour of the house but you are right, it is growing on me. haven't got a pci date yet but w are told it will be in around 2 weeks. woohoo. we still have electrical and toilets, shower, painting to go then THAT'S IT As soon as we get the pci date we can finalise carpet and the handover people. Did you decide on anyone yet? Re: start date, woohoo 127Jul 28, 2010 7:39 pm Hey will What colour did you change your internal paint colour to? I went 1/2 strength for my colour and in some areas of the house it is perfect with the amount of natural light, but in the wet areas and study, I feel it is too dark. So hard to judge and decide when looking at samples. Oh well, it's just paint - easy to change lol. I phoned one company re: PCI inspections and they seemed quite good. When I phoned up, the lady said they do quite a few in our area. I checked online with a few other companies and they are all around the same going rate $$$ wise. Just need to book someone in as soon as I know a PCI date. We haven't heard when to expect PCI Re: start date, woohoo 128Jul 31, 2010 2:37 pm Hi will Not sure if this is of interest to you, but I found out yesterday that p++t allow coloured and stencilled driveways even though it's not listed on that covenant approval sheet. I sent an email to the covenant approval lady and asked as I've started noticing that heaps of people are getting them and they said coloured and stencilled driveways are fine. So yeah, some trivial info fyi. We're now trying to decide between exposed aggregate or the coloured stencilled ones More decisions!! Re: start date, woohoo 130Aug 07, 2010 8:46 am hmmm, no word on PCI yet, the painters were held up and that pushed everything else back. Question, how neat was your paint around the edges? Ours is pretty messy. Am I being to picky? We changed our paint to duck white half in all the bedrooms and wet areas with duck 1/4 gloss for accents. It looks AMAZING. I went for oyster linen full for the rest of the house and I am so in love with it. ha Re: start date, woohoo 131Aug 08, 2010 8:40 am Oooooh your paint sounds lovley. *off to google oyster linen and duck white* Aha, found it - very nice!! Would look really striking your oyster linen as a main wall colour!! I like! Hmmm, paint on edges? Around cornices and trims do you mean? Our painter was really good so I haven't noticed anything except near our fridge space the paint is quite thin which is like one really small area. Other than that he is a very, very good painter, we liked him! Your pci inspector will be able to tell you if it's acceptable or not. Re: start date, woohoo 137Aug 13, 2010 2:05 pm just little things, the tiler stuffed up. He said he "got confused and couldn't remember what I wanted, so he just did what Coral told him" er, WHAT, DUDE? We had a meeting JUST to talk about how I wanted the splash back tiled (brick pattern - not that hard) and he couldn't get it together to do it. Then he wanted us to pay him to remove his error, buy more tiles and pay for him to put them up again. NO THANKS MATE. I told him to leave it as is. Am also becoming increasingly unhappy with the painters. The job looks really really sloppy and I am not going to accept handover until it's all fixed up. Then we have been told the colour wood stain we have chosen isn't available as an all in one so we have to pick another one. I don't know, probably all things I would usually take in my stride, but I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO sick of it all and just want them to hurry up and finish. And to finish off, someone has chipped our caesarstone bench top, it is white with little flecks in it and under the chip is black colour so you can really notice it. It's a tiny little chip but still really really really annoyed me. On all the benches/vanity units they tore off the signs telling them not to put things on them or use it as a work bench and have......used it as a work bench. Grrrr. As a result we now have chips and scratches. end of rant. Re: start date, woohoo 139Aug 13, 2010 8:53 pm Firstly, sorry to hear about your dramas . It totally sucks that these sorts of things happen - as if we don't have enough to deal with when building then to add all these sorts of things to the equation. I think that if you specifically specified to the tiler brick pattern, then IMO he should do just that and again IMO he should pay the cost to get it re-done. Can you live with it how it is? Cos if not, then stand your ground and get them to re-do it??? It comes down to if you will be happy to look at it after handover in the way it has been done? Perhaps your SS will pick up on the painting at your PCI and if not then IMO I would stress how unhappy you are with the job. I think paint finish is really important cos you will forever be looking at it and knowing the areas where touchups are needed. Hopefully this gets rectified to your satisfaction. And I would be furious if my stone was chipped in any way, shape or form . Everytime I get to go in to our house, the one thing I have been keeping an eye on is my kitchen bench for any chips. We pay so much to have these things that they should be presented to us in a satisfactory way. I would def raise it all at your PCI. Surely they should fix the chip and not hand you over the house with it like that? Good luck with it all Will. And let us know how your PCI goes.
