Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 22, 2009 10:17 pm Hi All, Due to our narrow block (12.8m), councils minimum side setback of 1.2m and councils strict garage rules, we weren't able to include a double garage in our plans. To compromise, we settled on getting a larger single garage (4.9m wide with a 3.9m garage door). We just got feedback from council and they are mandating that we reduce the garage door width to 3.2m. Although we meet their 1st condition of <50% of the dwelling size, they believe that a 3.9m garage does not meet Australian standards definition of a single garage. So folks, is it worth fighting with the council to get my precious 700mm of the garage door or just accept it and move on ? I am pretty sure he will not notice the difference and they will pass your plans. Thanks again for this information.
