We had ours done during the build, you really need to get it done before the walls go up, I can't imagine how they would do it after. It's worth every cent. Re: Ducted Vacuum 3Jun 22, 2009 11:43 pm We have had a ducted system put in. They did it a couple of weeks ago before the plaster started. They can put it in after but is alot harder and therefore would take more time & cost more for installation. Putting it in after is just the same as the getting extra powerpoints put in after, they have to thread it down the wall cavity (alot harder if you have internal wall insulation like us) from the roof space. I can't comment on how good it is yet because our house isn't finished yet but I can say that the main deciding factors for us getting it were fact that it is much quieter than a conventional vacuum because the motor is in the garage and also the fact that you can add a Vacsweep outlet (same as the Vacpan) in the kitchen. Within a month a small twig got caught in one of the tubes in the wall, so causing a blockage that we had to call out a serviceman to clean out. We stopped using it after that. I certainly won't waste my money on ducted vacuuming in the new house I'm building. It's expensive, prone to blockages which are expensive & inconvenient to repair, and you have to cart the damn long vacuum tube around with you (which I think is worse than a little vacuum cleaner & an electric cord). At least with a normal vacuum cleaner you can easily fix blockages yourself (in fact they seem to be less prone to blockages), and you can choose a better quality machine (I love Choice magazine).
