So they almost managed to complete the roof (obviously ran out due to a large number of breakages in the delivered tiles) but at least the house is more water-resistant given the large volume of rain in NSW over the Xmas/NY break! http://i577.photobucket.com/albums/ss214/MrsRose_photos/IMG_7610.jpg It actually now looks like a house! Plans are already underway for holding the family Xmas at our place in 2010! Yeay! When do your builders resume work again? viewtopic.php?f=31&t=22766 - my build thread! Time waits for no man. Unless that man is Chuck Norris. Re: C&T Rose - Bricks cleaned and roof almost complete!! 86Jan 05, 2010 4:28 pm Hi Jodie! Thanks, we're quite pleased with how the colours are coming together! Especially DH as I did cause him quite a bit of grief during the weeks before colour selection! We have no idea when they're starting back up again... our SS said that they probably wouldn't take the full 5 weeks off so we're hoping to see some action maybe next week???? if we're lucky! It's really taking shape now, it really looks like a house! That's wonderful to see. Thanks TM! I have to keep reminding myself to call it 'the house' rather than 'the block [of land]' - it still feels surreal that this house is mine and I'm going to live in it! JohnnyD Hi MrsRose...just came across your thread & noticed you have a similar colour scheme to our house & we are at the same stage of building. Our bricks are Austral Silver & we have ironstone/dune gutters & fascia & the same roof tiles! I've been following your build and admiring your bricks and colours selections too! Our gutters are monument and I'm still panicky that its going to be too dark especially once the balcony railing (also in monument) goes in... wondering whether I should've gone for ironstone after all.... We are having Ironstone on our balcony railing & front door, garage will be dune. I think at some stage we all second guess our selections. My latest dilemma is deciding to maybe add a ducted vac system but not sure if it might be to late...have to talk to our builder when they return to work next week. The house looks absolutely fantastic. Such a great idea to remove the garage columns and extend the garage. Kicking myself that we didn't think of that. LOL. Are they the pearl grey bricks and off white mortar that you decided on?? Re: C&T Rose - Bricks cleaned and roof almost complete!! 93Jan 07, 2010 10:55 am Mrs Rose, we have Monument guttering, black roof tiles and black balcony railing. I think it looks fine. Yours will be lovely, not too much at all because your bricks are gorgeous and will break it up. I actually found that I obsessed dreadfully (see my thread) over these things. Now that the house is nearly finished and it has been cleaned once and all that stuff, I looked at it yesterday and for the FIRST time, I actually thought "mmm, it's not so bad after all". You will love it when it's all done and dusted. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: C&T Rose - Bricks cleaned and roof almost complete!! 94Jan 07, 2010 10:58 am Wow!! And congratulations on the new bub due soon! Such exciting news!! Hey Lizzy! Thanks! The change to the garage was one of the very first things DH wanted to change! He's petrified of having his first born (the car) scratched or dented by the pillars Can't believe there is only 10 weeks until bub is born... its certainly going to be another big year of change! Tillie I too cannot believe I have missed your thread, the house is looking great. Are they the pearl grey bricks and off white mortar that you decided on?? Hi Tillie! Yes its the same brick but with the off white! It looks so much better than what I had hoped! I'm very glad you chose to use the bricks - it definitely saved us some money!! themax Mrs Rose, we have Monument guttering, black roof tiles and black balcony railing. I think it looks fine. I keep telling DH that if I think it all looks too bland then we'll have to jazz up the columns above/below the balcony with "something" Felistopher Wow!! It looks so good Mrs Rose!!!!! I love your garage The whole facade is a really nice one... Can't wait to see it all finished Thanks Felistopher - we were aiming for fairly simple as we're building in an established area and didn't want a "cutting edge" facade to freak the neighbours out... it just means that I drool over other's more exciting facades... Your block is by far the best suburban block I've seen so far, your house is gorgeous and the brick choice is very smart (I mean intelligent, this is the robust type of bricks whcih won't show chips etc. ... we thought of PGH vanilla, but their latest vanilla batches seem to be way too dull, and we wanted something happy and bright - ended up with a painted brick ...). Absolutely stunning, the whole lot!! Can you tell in which area of Syd are you building? Congratulations and best of luck for the rest of the build! What is the orientation (aspect) of your block? Cheers Hi Lex! Thanks! We really like our block and area which is near Penrith. Our block faces north east. FIL is a building designer in Nth QLD so he provided tips for choosing a hard wearing brick... therefore my initial selection of Sorbetto got vetoed.... and all the other bricks that I liked/loved were upgrades but we came across a house built with the Pearl Grey and it didn't look bad at all (I hated the brick at first sight because of the 'worm holes/tracks') and now I think it looks quite good, not beautiful but I'm satisfied and we spent the upgrade money on stuff for inside the house! What brick and other colours did you end up choosing? I note that your "build thread" doesn't include have any of the fluffy bits about building, only the annoying and frustrating bits.... the "why can't they just do things the right way, the first time" bits. I note that your "build thread" doesn't include have any of the fluffy bits about building ... Hi MrsRose, Yeah, where do we spend the money was one of the reasons why we "had to" choose what we chose (not that I didn't go from a firm decision on a very expensive (and very robust) brick to what was the lowest upgrade cost for a Boral brick but with no robustness ). I plan (I really do, I really want it) to start a classic build thread with all the "fluff" , instead of asking-for-advice-posts etc. etc., which is driving me crazy . All I want is a clean neat build, even if it takes ages over the contract time - couldn't care less.
