Casa - must be just me. i couldn't find the free download. They say the software is free, but charge for delivery.

I'll take another look.

My mistake. What I downloaded was the version 1.5 update which is 20.1 MB (thought it was a bit small). So it looks like I'll have to order the software and pay my $9.95 for postage and handling.

BTW, I'm a Punch user and will get this software mainly just to play around. however, if it's very easy to use I might make the jump over to MyVirtualHome.

Just one question, why no windows in the kitchen? Wouldn't it be dark? Isn't the back wall of the kitchen an outside wall? Sorry, that's 3 questions!

Looks fantastic! Did you start from scratch or use a scanned copy of your floor plan (I've been reading the tutorials!)

I went from scratch!!

I had approximate room dimensions and worked ftom that.

Wow thanks everyone for the heads up on this program - seems like a good way to wittle-away the hours (read: alot of hours!) whilst waiting for the house to be finished!

OK,

Having read the MVH manual twice....I still can't find how to overlay a 2nd storey on top of the ground floor. HELP!!!!

Northlakes,

When lookng from above (plan view) select the room you want to put upstairs and just place it on top of an existing downstairs room....

Its that simple!!

Can this really work if you use a scanned copy of the floorplan? If yes, can someone kindly tell me what page of the tutorial I should be looking at please? This would save me going through all of it :oops:

HI Mek,

I have never used a scanned floorplan.

Just simply make each room to the dimensions of your plan (allowing a few mm's here and there) and snap them together floor by floor!

Yep, just import the scanned image into the program, drag the arrows to a known wall dimension, drag the white boxes until the dimension indicator matches the room dimension.
Note this program is not 100% accurate as it seems to use the dead centre between wall thicknesses, compared to your plan showing room dimensions measured to the outer studs. Outer walls are even trickier.
So you will need to compensate for this if you want your saved project to reflect very close to accurate m2 data.

I had a thought on the weekend. - Yes just the one this wekend :wink:

RE MVH and not being able to download it.
I reckon they are making people registering via the postage only method of delivering the software so they can build up a large and accurate database of users. And as this list builds they have more collateral to entice building supply companies to register with them.

As we can see, it's great stuff and Matt is doing some fantastic views of his house.
And once it's built we'll all know which rooms are which at the house warming party :wink:

Just don't plan on standing under the eves if it's raining :wink:

I managed to find a way to download it over the weekend

, and for the record, I've also ordered it and spent my $9.95. The version I found was the BHG disk.

Well worth while from what I can see so far!

When you build your house and put products into it, you can select from a broad range - these are actual products and the details and images come from the suppliers. I'd say that suppliers pay a fee to be included.

The other feature is that the software has a search facility where you can search for a product or tradesman from the MVH online database. Again, I'd say that suppliers and tradies pay a fee. I don't have any problem with it that method of financing. A great piece of software so far.

Treu perry, and they have the rates listed at MVH on their web site.
Great way to pay for it, and the more users they have the better "Sell" they have to get companies to pay them money to be listed.

It's about 600Mb, and it's freely distributable, as is the key - I used bit torrent.

Hi Matt
Well done you have created great images. I spent a couple of days on MVH last week and ended up so frustrated I nearly threw the keyboard out the window. :evil:

Obviously I need more patience .... I think I'll go back and read the manual - you have given me hope.

Hey Beetle - keep at it. The results are worth it. It has a few frustrating little quirks, but learn a few of the keyboard functions and it makes like easier.

This is the first pass of our custom design home. It has the roof line from hell though!
