How does it work? Do you feed in a plan or just add rooms and then adjust them accordingly? Re: Home Design Software 23May 15, 2007 4:34 pm Hi Nathan,
Upgrade!! come to the darkside.... It is a build it room by room program. Ie pick the room from a list and drop it onto the page resize it to suit and connect it up. Then you can change and crop and all the usual things from there. A plan will take 10 or so minutes to rustle up to a walk through stage once you have the hang of it! Matt Re: Home Design Software 24May 15, 2007 11:21 pm Hi all,
Good job Nathan and Matt. Looks as though you could get a bit of work on the side. I've used the Punch software and agree that a lot of the furniture and facades do not really suit todays homes. I did however like that you alter the age of the tree/landscaping etc... to see what the home would look like in years to come. We used it to gain a sketch and electrical layout and then shipped them off to a draftsperson to do as a side/home project for cash. The only thing that we didn't get him to do were the internals, something that we will do on the next one. I don't think that Punch was the best investment, a couple of hundred dollars that I have used a couple of times. Go with the free dowload if you can. Cheers. Re: Home Design Software 26May 16, 2007 8:27 am I use Punch and find it very CPU intensive. I'd hate to think how it would run on a slow machine !
I find it excellent for doing the 2D floorplan, and for basic non-decorated walkthroughs just to look at the angles and perspectives. It was easy to learn and I got it at a real bargain price. But agree with the above posts: Interior decorating elements are very poor and dated. Re: Home Design Software 27May 16, 2007 8:35 am Hi,
I'm also a Punch user. As everyone has stated, the furniture selections are dated. As far as speed goes, I've found that if you keep the file size down below 2MB everything runs fast. After about 3MB everything slows right down. The thing to keep in mind to keep the file size down is to avoid placing furniture/object that are bigger than about 50 k each. Some items are 200 k each and you quickly run into problems. What I do is check the file size after any new obejct is placed and if it's too big I find an alternative. For instance my "stove top" is just a piece of ceiling, dropped to the right height and painted black. Good to see so many Punch users on the forum. I think there's at least three of us. Cheers, Casa Re: Home Design Software 28May 16, 2007 1:05 pm Some more pics:
This from just outside the garage This from just inside the garage This is the kitchen before I ad our colours. I've created a 2 storey plan - there are some setbacks off the ground floor - which means there will be roof material off the ground floor and 1st floor. When I click on the "roof" layer - it creates the roof for the ground floor only. I've searched on line - but not found any instructions on altering/creating rooves. Anyone know how I can get the roof on the 1st floor? Re: Home Design Software 30May 16, 2007 2:45 pm Stonecutter,
When you change views (press space bar) in the top left corner there is a layer button (rectangle with a triangle on top) when you press the triangle it doesnt show the roof?? To adjust the roof (Eaves!! etc) just click on the wall below the roof you want to adjust and go to the properties tab in the left pane. You get all the options in there. Matt Re: Home Design Software 31May 16, 2007 3:12 pm Yep - when I press the "layer" button - the triangle one for the roof - it only draws a roof on the ground floor parts of the house that don't have any upper storey on them.
I'll give MVH a call on their support hotline. This has me stumped! Re: Home Design Software 32May 16, 2007 3:33 pm Have you changed the options to tell it not to draw a roof??
Setting box left hand side...?? Re: Home Design Software 33May 16, 2007 6:19 pm Yay - fixed it - had 2 built in robes back to back - but the walls weren't touching so it couldn't draw the roof. Hopefully some pics soon Re: Home Design Software 35May 17, 2007 8:02 am Ok! That's it! I want to be part of this! Especially as it looks as though we will be designing our own place....
Went to the web site, and ordered it. It seems that the product is free - and the charge a $9.95 delivery fee to send out a CD. In this day and age, it's got me buggered why I need to wait for the software - I would have paid $9.95 to download it...... Cheers Perry Re: Home Design Software 37May 17, 2007 11:21 am if you download it for "free" you still need a cd key
