Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 19, 2009 11:46 pm Hello, need a lil help.... Currently going through the process of building a house with WA Country Builders and have stumbled upon something in the contract im not entirely happy about. And its the cost which is $2385, their 'standard rate' apparently which i know is way too much. It made a plumber laugh when i told him the cost. I calculate its around 70m of pipe, possibly 30 joins, the materials wouldnt even be $500. Everything else in the contract such a underground power run-in (only $700) has an allowance for cost and will come in under that given price. But the stormwater is $2385 end of story, cant be taken out of contract, nothing. I guess what im wanting to know is, has anyone else built with WACB and been copped such a hefty price for stormwater? Oh yeah and is there anyway i can get around it? I really dont want to pay nearly 2.5k for something i could get done for less than a grand. Cheers Re: Cost of stormwater connection. - WA Country Builders 2Jun 21, 2009 4:58 pm Hey where are you building? We've built the Durack Heritage, just about completed now. I was actually looking through the costs just now (replying to another thread relating to a water tank). Anyway I was a bit taken aback at the cost of $2,225 for the plumbing! So yes it seems to be their standard cost, I would tend to think it relates to how much the plumber they use charges them of course, then you have their mark up on top etc. I'm not sure if there is any way around it, only if they would let you organise your own plumber, but that would require very good communication and a reliable site/ construction supervisor to tell you when he's needed, and of course you would have to make sure you found yourself a reliable plumber too! Re: Cost of stormwater connection. - WA Country Builders 4Jun 22, 2009 8:26 am We had a similar quote for storm water....ours was more like 6k but we needed to run 2 pipes 120 metres. We took it out of contract and brought it to withinin 6 metres of the house ourselves but we were also running sewer / water /phone / ug power so made sense for us to dig one big hole. Have not been able to take it out of the contract in the end, WACB saying we cant and its all part of their building license and other nonsense . Never mind, final contract is all signed now finally. Cheers. 3 48356 Hi all I'm currently building a duplex in Sydney and we need to do a new water connection to the second unit. The water main is on the other side of the road so we need… 0 4265 Plumbers 'can be' plumbers, made all the worse by self certification which the building surveyor invariably accepts as proof of compliance!
