Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 19, 2009 2:49 pm Hi all, We are not at the stage of applying for our planning permit, but I am trying to work out how long building is likely to take us. The builder we want to use (small, local) has estimated around 5 months to build, but we will need to get a planning permit done before he can start. Just wondering if anyone knows realistically how long that is likely to take? The council has quoted 2 months, but not sure if that is an over or under estimation. Thanks. Re: Planning permit time - Nillumbik 2Sep 14, 2009 11:28 am Have you progressed any further with your planning permit? We are in a similar situation and trying to get our planning permit into nillumbik council also, but also unsure of how long it will all take. Has anyone else had experience with processing a permit application through Nillumbik council? Re: Planning permit time - Nillumbik 3Sep 14, 2009 12:49 pm Quote: It is very difficult to give you a definite time frame for submitting a planning application and the two month figure could be accurate. It depends really on what you are planning to build, whether any other authorities need to be involved in the application process, and whether the application attracts any objections. Council has a statutory obligation to make decisions on the planning application in 60 days. We always aim to reach this however on the odd occasion this isn't always possible. We will be happy to discuss your application with in person should you need any further advice. Re: Planning permit time - Nillumbik 5Sep 14, 2009 12:55 pm We are building in nillumbik and it took 4 months to receive our planning permit and there were no objections by our neighbours. Another person we met building in the area had to wait 6 months for their permit. Good luck and be patient! Re: Planning permit time - Nillumbik 6Sep 14, 2009 7:41 pm Thank you everyone. We knew when we purchased the property we would be up for a long wait and would have to be patient. I suppose we just need to get cracking and submit the permit, as it has no hope of being approved sitting unfinished on the desk at home. Give Jonathan a call. Tell him you know me.
