But, if people insist on not making a conscious effort to delay turning on the dryer, dishwasher, washing machine, pool pump, spa heaters etc outside of the peak period, any savings would be eaten up. Things like cooking are a negligble part of an electricty bill - nobody is saying don't cook, watch TV, have a shower, use the computer in the Peak period. Just try to put off running anything that can be dealyed. Yes, I work for EnergyAustralia - and the PowerSmart meter is not a scam or a conspiracy. Sorry folks, but within 5 years everyone in EA's network area will have one of these meters - it is not optional, they don't need your permission - it will happen. All new construction will have them installed and the remainder will be gradually replaced. And, the claim that 94% of peoplel on these meters save is correct - I have seen hundreds upon hundreds of accounts that verify this. It just takes a little bit of fore thought and getting used to. After your first year on this meter, a calculation is done to check what your annual electricity costs would have been on the old style meter. And if it would have been lower, you are refunded the difference - but only for the first year though. and as today is the day the price of electricity rises - can I give this helpful hint. No matter what the sales assistant tells you - oil column heaters are NOT energy efficient and they are one of the BIGGEST causes of high electricity bills - if you have one - GET RID OF IT NOW! I also agree with Maxie about column heaters. If I want to warm up one small room (bathroom) quickly, a hot air blower is no more efficient, but much quicker - you don't have to wait for it to warm itself up before heating the room.
