Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 17, 2009 10:59 am Has anyone been charged for moving, changing the position of the hot water system on their house. Mine is at the front next to my bed head. I am still at preliminary drawings and have no final drawings. Bearing in mind builders can do what they like, can they charge you via a variation once they see its location on the final plan. I was thinking hey if it’s on the final plan at the back of the house its not a variation it’s on the plan, and must be put there included in the cost. Same with the meter box. Naturally the builder will want it as close as possible to the gas & power pit as it saves them some money in pipe run. Is this correct? I was told no cost, but exactly how far they could move it was determined by a minimum distance to the bathroom. It was originally on the alfresco / entertaining side of the house so we wanted to put it on the other side where the laundry and garage is so it is more out of the way. No cost, only comment was that the hot water may take a while to reach to bathroom at the other end of the house - but not the ensuite that it will be right next too. We figured the kids normally have baths so the water isn't wasted waiting for the hot, whereas we have showers so wouldn't jump in until it's warm.
