Oh what fun that was .. NOT. First we found out that our allowance they had put in for crossover of around $2,700 was not enough as we have a huge crossover. So it went up another $2,500. Nice of them to let us know the very day we had to pay it. So that blew our budget from the get go. Then the tile. We had already upgraded to tile in our contract. We then upgraded on the builders standard to one we loved. We chose it from Crosbys. All our bathroom tiles etc we chose at European Ceramics. She then said we could only choose from one place. We argued that it should be different if we were choosing living room tiles as it could of been carpet or laminate and they would of had to of ordered it in. She said No. We said yes. We came to a standstill. She went to ask her manager who said no. We would not budge and argued our case. I said to get the manager here and I would talk to her. Anyway she did in the end. We were ready to walk out lol.. The manager came and said no. We argued for a bit. She finally said for $120 we could do it. So we begrudgingly conceded and paid the $120 to do that. Admin costs apparently So we added a few more bits and pieces as you do. Had to take out our rangehood and overhead cupboards to help towards crossover. $500 HBC fee to have a border in driveway and alfresco. and then $60 to have the opposite colours in the alfresco. Rip-OFF Anyway 3 and half hours later some dubious colour choices LOL because some of the whites we chose for paints would need extra coat meaning extra charge There were some good things in there I am sure lol.. but yes kept it to the minimum we could and I think its all up about $5000 we paid. So with the extra for the crossover we were very conservative. Will have to get a lot of the other stuff we might want (extra powepoints etc) after handover. Let me never go through it again Re: Bulding with HBC at Byford "The Glades" Perth Prestart done 66Jul 29, 2009 10:27 pm gosh!!! sounds painful!! i hope my prstart wont be that bad!! It sounds like you girls are having a hard time with HBC! i dont think i could sacrifice my extra cupboards and rangehood! One powerball! No I didn't want to sacrifice them either.. but had to be done.. the crossover cost was totally unexpected. And for so much. Not much we could do. It was just getting out of hand. Very sad to lose them though. Plus we could not say bugger the crossover we will do it ourselves because the allowance gets credited back to keystart for that and lessens the loan then we gotta fork out 4 grand after ..Yes one powerball indeed lol Re: Bulding with HBC at Byford "The Glades" Perth Prestart done 68Jul 29, 2009 10:54 pm Oh Chedasha I am so sad for you...what a disappointment. I know the margins hurt so i tried to keep everything off that i could that i knew we could do after construction. having said that sometimes it is easier to roll everything into one! I ended up spending more money at prestart upgrading vanitys, door handles and bathroom hardware and went for basic one colour pavers etc. (luckily though i have a lot of tradies in the family that i can call on to get a fair quote on things like cross overs and bordering on drive ways etc. I was even told that they throw on almost $1k for sectional rollerdoors when you purchase through HBC. The only thing i stuffed up in my prestart was getting a set of french doors through them. would've been alot cheaper for them to just put in my door frames.. they cost me about 1400 i would've easily saved half of that haha. at least you're through it though!! I think we have paid enough for them to just do some things as long as they are not outrageous demands.
Nicci I think crossover was so much as we have a line of gum trees down our street so we are set back further from the road. Your costs are great.. it really hurt to pay over $4000 for it I can tell you. Jpeg yes we to had to cut a lot as well and leave it to after. Powerpoints and yes the garage door as well. That was never put in. But yes hopefully get it cheaper anyhow. We did manage to lengthen the bathroom vanities and extra cupboards there. A slider door between family and hall (we had to have a door LWP reqd). Upgrade to bigger gas hot water system. We got the mirrors for bathroom with the border around them. Changed window to sliding door in living area so its sliding doors on both sides to go out to alfresco. Yes I wish I knew a few tradies about now But yes its done and dusted now and over with. Re: Bulding with HBC at Byford "The Glades" Perth Prestart done 74Jul 30, 2009 5:52 pm $4000 For a few metres of paving is despicable, I cannot comprehend how they can charge that much Building with Blueprint homes, Perth WA Prestart complete, settlement 14/08/09 Re: Bulding with HBC at Byford "The Glades" Perth Prestart done 75Jul 30, 2009 6:14 pm karakarakara oh that sucks that they sprung that on you Prestart is meant to be fun and exciting (well I'm hoping it will be that), to be hit with a cost like that outright would have been awful. I have to say well done on pushing the point of getting the tiles you wanted though! I know it was awful. The worst is its something I really don't give a rats about..if you could leave dirt there I would I mean at least it could of been for something worthwhile in the house. Ha Yeah wasn't budging on the tiles after that. Re: Bulding with HBC at Byford "The Glades" Perth Prestart done 76Jul 30, 2009 6:15 pm Alisgirl $4000 For a few metres of paving is despicable, I cannot comprehend how they can charge that much I agree disgraceful. Honestly I think it should just be considered part of the driveway and they should just pave the lot with what they charge anyhow. Alternately since its council land and we pay rates they should cover it. Re: Bulding with HBC at Byford "The Glades" Perth Prestart done 77Aug 01, 2009 8:33 pm Went and got paint samples today of our paint colours for render etc and interior doors etc. Painted the back of some old tiles we had. We are quite happy with the choices. Surfmist for the render and gutters. Snowhite for inside. Re: Bulding with HBC at Byford "The Glades" Perth Prestart done 78Aug 01, 2009 8:39 pm That is definitely DISGRACEFUL on their part. Fancy giving you an allowance that doesn't cover the cost - WTF? It's not like they had no idea what size it was...They quoted us something ridiculous too, so we said no way. I don't know why they don't just give you a complete driveway from the start, and then we could add the cost to our loans. It's not a luxury item, it's a necessity! Anyway, live and learn I suppose.
