Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Our Windosr 47 with Porter Davis 81Jun 21, 2009 11:24 pm Hi liana I have been following your blog for a while, and like many of the members of this forum, im deeply shocked and cant believe the "just fix it" attitude. I would have expected PD to bulldozer the house and start again at their expense. Rendering is NOT the answer to weak mortar/******* brick work. It all comes down to having the right site supervisor, admin person, and of course a good tradie crew. But as you say, PD are cost cutting, hence the tradies care factor also diminishes. House & upgrade prices are constantly increasing, so one would expect the quality also increase...In your case definitely not. Do not settle for 2nd best, get what you pay for, and thats a new home, not a patched up home, full of defects. We built a PD cremorne41, just had our 12 month on friday, went really well. We were one of the 1st cremorne owners to have posted a blog, which others have followed and received many tips from our build. I was onsite daily, and fortunate for us we had the best site supervisor, admin person, sales guy, maintenance inspector....I cannot say anything bad about our build, it was built so well. Even after 12 months we have only minor issues. I made it clear from the start that I expect high quality, and thats what I got. Coffee & donuts also help...... I wish you all the best, and hope you have some sanity left after this ordeal finally ends, and that 1 day soon you will move into your new home with the motivation & love it deserves. Re: Our Windosr 47 with Porter Davis 82Jul 01, 2009 7:42 pm I'm still reading all the posts in this thread but I just wanted to add my 2c before I get dragged away to tend to hungry kids. We had handover of our Porter Davis house over 2 years ago now. We are *still* waiting for outstanding items from the original handover to be completed & the whole experience has left a very bad taste in the mouth (I'm not sure if my original posts are still on the forum...it's been a while since I was here last). We have come to realise that it's really important you are 100% satisfied with the house before you give them that final cheque or else you can forget about getting outstanding items completed in a timely manner. I know that doesn't help with things that are going wrong now but better to get them sorted now than wait for over 2 years to get them sorted later. Heck...we're still waiting to get a roof leak fixed that originally started 1 1/2 years ago. Anyway...back to reading the rest of the thread & if you'd like to know more about our experience, feel free to PM me. Re: Our Windosr 47 with Porter Davis 83Jul 01, 2009 11:55 pm Back again & have had a look at your blog. Funnily enough, we've had a lot of similar issues with ours but many we sort of gave up on because there were so many bigger issues that weren't being sorted (cornices coming away from the walls...leaking roof...etc) & we had to pick our battles a wee bit, unfortunately. At one stage, when I was getting cross about the abysmal paint job, the painter said the areas where they'd only done one coat (so you could clearly see raw wood underneath the brush marks) was wood grain & we just didn't like wood. Yeah. Because that's why we chose wooden windows. I know you can't probably say in the public forum but I'd be very interested to know if you have the same site supervisor we had (he moved to another area of Melbourne)...so many issues you're having are similar to ours. Re: Our Windosr 47 with Porter Davis 84Jul 04, 2009 3:04 am Well, It's been a while since I posted anything. Been busy looking up the definition of "rectification" because it definitely doesn't describe what's happening at our "new" house. I have an update on the "progress" of the ongoing rectification process, on our blog. Keen to hear your feedback, so please leave a comment on the blog. Here's the link: http://lianaduric.blogspot.com/ Pass the wine and 2 glasses please ... Re: Our Windosr 47 with Porter Davis 86Sep 07, 2009 5:59 pm I am also wondering if there are any updates? Re: Our Windosr 47 with Porter Davis 88Sep 09, 2009 9:11 pm oztish I've noticed your blog no longer exists (?) How's everything going with the house? I noticed that too so I wondered if there had been some legal issues. I hope Liana can pop in soon with an update. Blog: http://bluemistkids.blogspot.com "Never be afraid to try something new. I haven't disappeared altogether. It's been a very busy time for us and everyone involved in this build. Things have been progressing brilliantly and we are SO pleased with how PD have handled the rectification process. Our new supervisor is ... I cannot find words to describe him, other than ... a God-send! Since he came on board, I have been pinching myself to make sure I wasn't dreaming. What a turn-around! From the day he stepped in, we have been gob-smacked at the progress. And his crew of tradies ... I can see why they work for him. In the words of one tradie "He respects us, so we respect him". Bingo! If only we could meet all the staff and contractors that would be working on our build, BEFORE we sign the contract. It's no different to hiring staff or any contractor, whether it’s for work or home. Is it? If we could interview them, assess their skills, qualifications and workmanship and see real examples of their work history and … get reference checks!!! Whooo-ahhhh! Would we hire them? If only!!! So, on a positive note: We are so close to handover now, I can already taste the champagne. I hope you can all understand why I deleted my blog and have not continued to publicise the progress of our build. It has always been our first priority to work with PD to get this build to satisfactory final completion. It has been a long and difficult journey. But isn't that just "life". I had been following your blog for many months now and was sad to see it deleted, but I can fully appreciate why it was done. You have had a ride and a half...and then some...and I wish you every happiness in your new home. I can't emphasize enough the importance of a wonderful SS. I was blessed with one for the whole of my build, and had a very smooth run. I hope your new one continues to work with you and rectifies all of the issues you had to your complete satisfaction. Congratulations once again, and best wishes! I'll have a drink for you and your family when I open the Bolly this Friday night (still bank depending...) as I celebrate my handover. I hope that the excitement has returned for you and you're looking forward to being in your new home. Getting a new SS who knows how to manage a build makes a huge difference (yeah, who'd have thought? ). Re: Our Windosr 47 with Porter Davis 97Sep 13, 2009 9:44 am What wonderful news that you have found an SS who cares about your house.
