Hi everyone
I wanted to share this as im hearing many stories of new home owners having issues with there brickwork. Various volume builders are always striving to save money, cut where they can and some areas maybe too much...From what I have heard, some builders are telling there brick layers to use more sand in the mortar mix, ie
7 shovels of sand : 1 shovel cement : 1 shovel lime
This is way too much sand, and it weakens the mortar mix, which in turn results in weak brickwork. It should be about 4-5 shovels of sand instead of 7.
I have read and heard of people who are not happy with there brickwork, and when its cleaned with the acid, lots of pit holes are visible, and in some cases the mortar is just washed away.
This is a major concern, and I would strongly suggest you ask your builder, site supervisor on what formula there brickies are using.
Thanks
