Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 15, 2009 12:32 pm Well, I thought I'd get in on this and start my own thread! I built my first home in Canning Vale with my brother (his second home). We bought the land in October 2007, and spent the next nine or so months looking at numerous houses. We had draft plans drawn up and costed by New Generation Homes and Impressions, before deciding on the Fusion by Commodore Homes. I'll have to wait until I get home to post my own plans because our work server restricts me from uploading a picture to a sharing website. But this is the Fusion in it's original design: http://www.commodorehomes.com.au/docs/C ... _Oct08.pdf The main changes made to the plan were: - the back of the house from the kitchen onwards had to reversed due to council regulations - there is no home office, that was removed to increase the size of the master bedroom, ensuite and WIRS - the bathroom was increased in size to allow double vanities and more space - laundry was increased in size to allow for a large linen closet - all bedrooms were increased in size and robes were increased in size to the same length as they wall they were set against. The size of the webzone was decreased to allow for this, and also we utilized the extra space created by removed in the home office and moving some walls. It was important to have larger bedrooms because we're both adults and I always wanted large robes in bedrooms. Unfortunately I have pulled the short straw and do not get the master bedroom. The entire size is sitting just under 300 sq m, with house/living space at around 240 sq m. Construction commenced November 2008 and we received the keys in April, in the week prior to Easter. From that time until now we have been working to get the house ready to move in. We had tiling laid to the majority of the house, except bedrooms and theatre room. Those rooms are having laminate flooring. Built with Commodore Homes - The Fusion completed April 2009 (with modifications) Yes I have moved! Thanks Lynne, first time I've heard it described as funky! I'd still like the master bedroom but I can kinda live with not having it because my room is still pretty big for a minor bedroom, and the robe is large! I also don't expect my brother to live in the house for too long, perhaps a year or so and then I can take over the master bedroom! I'll pop up some more pics/info soon. Both adults? Hehe, brothers are never truly 'adults' in the eyes of their sisters! Looks great Sooty! But we need pictures! Something to drool over... AND to remind us all that one day we WILL have a house too! My tac-home-ter: Been in 8 months! Re: Sooty's house - Commodore Homes, Perth WA 8Jun 16, 2009 1:01 am haha....good call Annie! Miracle!). Either it will go awesomely well or you will end up with bodyparts strewn about the place after a fight over who has to clean the toilet! In my case it would be the latter. One of my brothers is an artist and professional framer, and has paints and dyes and photography equipment and frames EVERYWHERE. The other is a bike mechanic and 4wd fanatic so he has bits of cars and bikes EVERYWHERE. I am more eclectic, and have 2 dogs. I have general stuff plus dog poo/hair/bones/toys EVERYWHERE! We would kill each other within days! My tac-home-ter: Been in 8 months! Re: Sooty's house - Commodore Homes, Perth WA 11Jun 16, 2009 1:16 am Thankfully my brother is not an artist nor a 4wdriving mechanic. You see, we've lived together since 2002. He's eight years older than me and that was when he built his first house, which is where we both are right now. We have always got along pretty well, all my friends say that. We've always split cleaning duties. I don't know how it happened but it just fell into place that I cleaned the back half and he cleaned the front half. Perhaps because my room is in the rear and his is at the front? But like I said I don't expect him to be here for too long because he's getting married next year, as it is I hardly see him right now as it is. One is 2 years younger and he would drive me absolutely insane. He also loves very loud music I know I WOULD kill him! We get along well but he is not the kind of person I could live with now. My other one is 6 years younger and really has his head screwed on straight. But he's still young and not ready for settling down and building anything but a better bike or car I love both my brothers very much, but I am very happy I'm building by myself. I have lived alone for so long that even a boyfriend may have to fight his way in hehehe My tac-home-ter: Been in 8 months! Re: Sooty's house - Commodore Homes, Perth WA 14Jun 16, 2009 10:59 am I'm building with my brother, we have settlement next monday (hopefully). So far, I have no plans to kill him All the businesses that ever so helpfully 'correct' our address and personal details so I'm a Mrs and married to my brother however ... Why can't they just leave things how we put them on the forms??? I'm starting to contemplate ticking the miss box rather than my default ms in the hope that maybe then they'll stop doing it! I actually found living with my sister worse - we regularly threw things/tried to kill each other. The only problem living with my brother is that he feels life is not complete unless his computers outnumber him at least 6 to 1. The only problem living with my brother is that he feels life is not complete unless his computers outnumber him at least 6 to 1. OH MY GOD! That happened to me!!! I had to contact one company twice to have it changed. I find it very presumptuous that they would do something like that, I would never assume something like that about my clients. To top it off, we don't even have the same last name. Built with Commodore Homes - The Fusion completed April 2009 (with modifications) Yes I have moved! If my mom reads this she'll be agreeing.. Kash, congrats about settlement date. Thats so strange they just make you a Mrs on paperwork.. ***, i wonder what else they just change Home Group WA Monte Carlo Timeline on Page 1 Re: Sooty's house - Commodore Homes, Perth WA 17Jun 16, 2009 12:37 pm Kash The only problem living with my brother is that he feels life is not complete unless his computers outnumber him at least 6 to 1. hahahaha, I have friends like that! Lucky too, cause I can get the to help me with computery stuff! I have no sisters. I don't actually fight with my brothers these days. Not since I moved out of home. When one of us is being an idiot, the other just tells them they are being an idiot and then it's over. One of my brothers got annoyed that I wouldn't stop talking about house stuff one day. So I just told him to shut up cause I was going to keep talking whether he liked it or not. He sulked for a few minutes while I continued to talk about house plans to the rest of the family, who were at least pretending to be interested! I always wanted a sister, but have a pretty cool mum so I'm not too worried nowadays My tac-home-ter: Been in 8 months! Re: Sooty's house - Commodore Homes, Perth WA 18Jun 16, 2009 1:06 pm Sooty, that's even more impressive marrying you off when your last names don't even match! We have the same last name, so I at least understand why they assume we're probably married, what with the building the house. It doesn't bother me too much in person, I just say oh no he's my brother/whatever. But when you've filled out forms, ticked the single box on both of you, have separate addresses on the loan app... it kind of makes you wonder. I keep expecting them to mess something up in the loan paperwork and have to redo it all Re: Sooty's house - Commodore Homes, Perth WA 19Jun 16, 2009 1:10 pm They messed up my loan paperwork and put my old address on it (assumedly from the finance documents I provided, some of which had my old address on it) I just had to cross out the wrong address, sign and date and write the new address below. Then provide a signed cover letter explaining it all. My tac-home-ter: Been in 8 months! Re: Sooty's house - Commodore Homes, Perth WA 20Jun 18, 2009 9:44 pm Okay, so let me get back on track.
