Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 07, 2007 3:51 pm I would like to share with everyone our experience and process in building our dream house..have to thank ALTO for his recommendations and advice..we purchased our land 4 years ago and finally decided to do something about it...all up from finding a builder to getting a loan, it took us 8 months...the longest stage was getting a builder and getting approval from council for the floorplans...our land is small - 358msq so none of the big builders were interested, for one Metricon and Henley because they would be wasting time downsizing their plans to fit our land..
So we consulted 6 custom builders to get a quote and strangely they were all vastly different for no obvious reasons ranging from $320k-$680k for a 32sq double storey house, 3 bdrms and a study...we shortlisted 3 and we finally settled for Enterprise Constructions whose quote was somewhere inbetween and they were very accommodating with our requests... They are a medium sized builder and they build about 50 homes a year which means they still remember our first names... My husband found a software - www.myvirtualhome.com.au that allows you to create a virtual home and it has a 3D image of everything so we knew exactly what we wanted when we saw our potential builders. The software is free, all you have to pay is $9.95 p & h. Also, home mags and clippings are also a great way to get the ideas across..dont be afraid to show them what you want no matter how silly the idea may be. In fact, try to be very specific with what you want. We finalized all the bank papers before x'mas and the building process commenced mid January..completion time is 300 days so should be November if all goes well..I have attached the pics from the start..ENJOY and any questions are welcome..happy to help out... Last pic before the construction process starts..cant wait for that hideous shrub to be bulldozed!! Please keep everyone informed as you go with your builder, as I see you have contracted a private builder. Better still, should be more of it. It will be interesting to see if you have the same amount of problems as the people with project building companies building their homes. As a survey…. I am really interested in your results. ![]() Internal and External - Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide Re: Our Dream Home 6May 07, 2007 5:03 pm Its not allowing me to attach files..can someone please help me..I have transferred some files to photobucket and have tried to attach it at the bottom where it says filename and when I click add attachment it says error... ![]() Re: Our Dream Home 7May 07, 2007 6:32 pm I’m really bad with posting photos….to much technology for me!!!!

Well you do anyway. What’s the big fence at the back, that’s what I call total privacy! Good work.
I do have an unfair advantage - I work in the IT business, so if I couldn't create a blog and add some bits, people would be wondering why. There are a few other that just have photos and nothing else. I think people have created then so they can send a link to their friends. Regardless - keep uploading the photos! Perry Re: Our Dream Home 20May 07, 2007 11:20 pm Upper level's turn...while all this is happening we are frantically choosing our paint colors, tiles, appliances, toilet suites, kitchen sinks, vanity sinks, tapware, bathtubs, carpet and yes most of these selections are variations to the contract so our builder's blood pressure is on the rise
!!! Because of this the building is delayed by another 30 days..most importantly we got what we wanted....
