Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 14, 2009 11:13 pm Hi, I am just wondering anyone build their house on stump?? can you share your experiences and what are the benefits of building on stump?? My builder told me to build on stump because my land has a bit of slope. but i think most of people now build on slab....so I am not sure which one is better,, I've seen many photos of building on slab, but havent seen much with stumps. if anyone could tell me the process for building on stump, that will be very appreciated Thank you Re: build on stump 2Jun 14, 2009 11:20 pm How much of a slope do you have? From what Im aware, and I may be wrong, but you may not be able to actually choose what type you want, wouldnt it come down to your soil report and what not, especially if you're on a large slope? Re: build on stump 3Jun 14, 2009 11:33 pm When I was a kid we were unusual having a slab. Just a few things that occur to me . . . slab is better for energy efficiency, absorbs heat during the day and releases it at night . . . stump (didn't it used to be called something else?) allows storage underneath, used to be floorboards (noise potential!) but in recent times it's been particleboard flooring which makes me prefer slab just to avoid the formaldehyde issue, can anyone explain why flooring sheets are printed with this side up because I've seen them laid any which way so is it important I wonder . . . sometimes houses are built with a section of slab and a section of stump but I've heard cracks in walls are more likely due to the different movement of the two sections . . . do you have a plan yet, perhaps there is potential to make the house split level to follow the slope? Thank you so much everyone. This all makes a lot of sense. I guess when you talk to a builder who butters up everything to look very polished, you get to start believing… 8 2249 thank you! do we need to get this or our builder before we commence new build on the block? 2 4420 Hi, did you get any money from insurance? if you did, does it match what you've already paid the builders? 3 5012 |
