Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 14, 2009 9:32 pm I am currently building with a well known builder. The house is at completion stage and they just connected the downpipes to the stormwater. One of the round stormwater pipes joints to the rectangle downpipes at a right angle and sits at the same level as the top of the slab for about 500mm then you cant see it so I assume if goes down to connect with the other pipe that connects to the main stormwater drain. What my concern is is that it sits up to high and I wont be able to concrete over it because there wont be enough cover and the concrete will crack. My site plan drawings has a legend that says 90mm dia UPVC S.W.D laid at 1:100 100mm dia under lab/paved ares and there is dotted line where the stormwater pipes are. What I would like to know is how deep is the pipe meant to be in accordance with the BCA. While I play the fool can anyone explain what the angle of repose for the stormwater pipes mean? Things just don't look right but I need more than that if I say something to the builder. Re: How deep should stormwater drain pipe be below the downpipe? 4Jun 15, 2009 1:44 pm The actually stormwater connection is at theback of the block about 14m away and at a depth of 1.5m. I think pipes runs around the house then links into a pipe that fallows then fence to the back of the property to the main stormwater. I am jyst warried driectly near the house that the pipe initially sits to high so concrete will crack or the pipe damaged. Re: How deep should stormwater drain pipe be below the downpipe? 5Jun 15, 2009 4:23 pm Caroline The actually stormwater connection is at theback of the block about 14m away and at a depth of 1.5m. Thats probably why its a bit high, with a 1:100 fall the storm water is right on the borderline at 1.4M fall over the total distance of 14M. Re: How deep should stormwater drain pipe be below the downpipe? 6Jun 16, 2009 12:49 pm You are right thanks for that. Still I guess the builder needs to do something about it because from the drawings I assume the pipe needs to be 100mm below the slab. Grab a hose, insert it at the top of the inlet/down pipe and turn the water on and see where the water is escaping from. Then you'll know. 3 8385 in the stormwater pit or the drain? Those dont look like theyd fit in the drain. Separately, the pits do get stuff in them during the course of the build.
