Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 13, 2009 2:52 pm I am looking to get a water tank installed. The builder is quoting $4000 for a round 2000L tank inc. installation, which I think is quite high. Hence, I want to do it on my own. I asked the builder if they could do the plumbing for the water tank to be installed later. They said they either do everything or nothing. My question is: How complicated & costly would it be for the plumbing & installation to be done once the house is constructed. I want to know if this involves damaging the walls. Want to know what's involved in this. Re: Any info on Water tank & plumbing 2Jun 13, 2009 3:34 pm I am presuming that you're planning to plumb the tank into say, a toilet or laundry (a requirement for new builds in SA). You need 3 things: (1) mains water line near the tank in case the tank runs low/dry (2) grey water line, transferring rain water to your toilet (3) power near the tank, for the pump. My builder put two pipes through the back corner of the slab for (1) and (2). Each pipe is about 1-1.5m long. He'll later connect them accordingly. Chris Re: Any info on Water tank & plumbing 3Jun 14, 2009 1:38 am We got quoted a high price from our builder for the tank so we are getting them to do the plumbing to both toilets & the laundry and then we are putting the tank in ourselves. The builder has charged about $500 to do that plumbing. They almost encouraged us to supply the tank ourselves since they knew that we could get a better deal for a tank elsewhere. That is crazy for them to say all or nothing. I'd push it abit if I were you. We have been given a price of $3,600 for a 9,000 litre round tank, installed. Re: Any info on Water tank & plumbing 6Jun 14, 2009 12:49 pm $1400 for the 3000l tank $1200 to connect it, including: leaf eater, first flush, filter and the pump. The pipe layout, including the mains feed and a separate loop for laundry and toilet was part of the plumbing rough-in. So $4000 is a gouge!
