Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 11, 2009 9:17 am Hi All, Long time Homeone reader and I was curious if anyone has had any experience with Silkwood Dream (or Abode Living). They are the same company, with a Silkwood display in Epping and a Abode Living in Doreen. Has anybody built with this company? How have you found the experience and the quality of work? Thanks. Re: Any experiences with Silkwood Dream or Abode Living? 2Jun 11, 2009 10:09 am Hi and welcome to the forum. I have no personal experience, but there is one that has just started near my block. I'll be interested to watch it go up. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Any experiences with Silkwood Dream or Abode Living? 3Jun 11, 2009 4:47 pm Hi, We had enquired with Abode - pricing and plans were wonderful, however our current neighbour who we have since became great friends with built with silkwood last yearand the quality of the build is terrible ( to say the least)- they moved in Dec, the house still has tradies coming and fixing things (some of these have been "fixed" a few times over as the fix was as bad or worse than in the first place) - we have decided to build elsewhere..... You will find a few people reviewing them on http://www.productreview.com.au/showite ... EWS&next=4. Good luck with your build, happy builder hunting to you. Mel Re: Any experiences with Silkwood Dream or Abode Living? 4Jun 11, 2009 5:08 pm Thanks Mel, Disappointing to hear about your neighbours build. I couldn't think of anything worse than going through the building process only to come out with persistent problems that need fixing over and over. Anyone else had experience with this company? Good, bad or ugly. Are they a big company? I got the impression that they were smaller and more open to making changes to their plans etc. Re: Any experiences with Silkwood Dream or Abode Living? 6Jun 13, 2009 12:43 am was talking to a colleague at work tonight and she was due to start with abode 4 months ago but nothing yet and apparently they have taken more than 2 months to return her calls and thats only after she has left several messages each day! One day she just kept pressing redial until someone answered! But hey you have issues everywhere you go... its luck of the draw.... 2nd build here we come in Whittlesea! https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=92617 1st Build - Henley - Cooper in Doreen! Does anyone know of any positive feedback? Re: Any experiences with Silkwood Dream or Abode Living? 8Jun 30, 2009 5:44 pm hi i'm also building in epping with SILKWOOD DREAMS .... we signed the contract in dec ... they started work on 6th march .... now the house is in final stage .... but as far as quality is concerned that will be judged when we will move in .... yes they are small builder and can do changes acc to your choice ... anyhow every one has diff experience with the builder ... best of luck to you Re: Any experiences with Silkwood Dream or Abode Living? 9Jul 28, 2009 12:12 am We are building with Abode Living and my sister has just moved into the house they built with Abode. So far, we have found the service from Karen the sales rep to be fantastic - she always answered her phone or would call me back ASAP. Nothing was ever too much - they were very flexible with plans etc. Site costs were under-estimated though - we were told $7-10k but ended up with $24k!! Due to a retaining wall that was 40% of the cost. But otherwise, they have been reasonably good so far. The house has gone up pretty quickly, 3 months since excavation and we are at fixing stage. My hubby is happy with the brickwork and the plastering. They have different teams of contractors as my sister said she had a different lot working on her house from what we have had so it will be interesting to see the difference in quality once it is finished. I hope this helps. Building with Abode Living in Cornell's Hill, Doreen Building for the third time; yes we are crazy!! You have mandatory building inspections and privately engaged building inspections. The difference between the two comes down to inspecting the building so it's safe and… 3 13030 I would be wary. Is you site demilished but nothing else done? Sounds like liquidity problems to me. Our builder did the same. Got hundreds of thousands of dollars of… 2 11930 3 3532 |
