Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 17, 2009 3:38 pm It's kind of a how-long-is-a-piece-of-string question - how long do I need to allow before I can move in after handover? I've been told by my SS that handover will be about 4 weeks. After handover I need to get the driveway, carpet, hard flooring and blinds done and get the light fittings installed. I can then apply for a temporary COO and do the landscaping after we're in. I've got a lot going on, including upcoming surgery, so I'm trying to pick someone else's brains to get an idea of time. Thanks.

If you are happy to move in before those things are done, then straight away This is where you need your project management skills to come to the fore front and get them all in ASAP YaY for only a few weeks to go!! I put the deposit for the window furnishings 2 wks ago (takes 4 weeks - so it will be in by the time we move in); booked the floor board polishing guys to come in next Thur; chose the carpets and they need 1 wk notice so I'll call them up tomorrow and ask them to come in early the following week; and the driveway guy we've yet to contact, but we'll ask him to come in the same week as the carpet guys. Once the flooring is complete we will schedule the builder to return to fit in our kitchen appliances/hot water system. ---->Some say that a recession is when your neighbour loses his/her job while a depression is when you lose yours!<----- Re: Post-handover help needed 5Jun 18, 2009 7:29 am Judie It's kind of a how-long-is-a-piece-of-string question - how long do I need to allow before I can move in after handover? Judie If you have gone through the process of selecting your carpet & layer, concretor, flooring & installer, blind suupplier, etc..... then there's no reason why you can't have them all booked now. The driveway would take the longest to do . And you need time to have that all done & dusted before the other trades traipse into your new house. Driveway 1st. THat could take a week - formwork, pouring, curing, etc... Then carpet 1 day or morning ? Floorboards Blinds I would get the lights done after I move in, to get in sooner. All up maybe 2 weeks at the most - I think.
