Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Signing Contract on the Day 21Jun 15, 2009 12:57 pm We refused to sign our contract with Simonds at two separate appointments. We finally signed at the third, once they had rectified all the mistakes they made with the first two. I was not prepared to sign an incorrect contract. I also took a copy of both incorrect contracts with me and brought each back to the subsequent appointment (along with the original quote) for comparison purposes. I also spent well over 2 hours going over every line item from quote -> contract to ensure that the price had not changed. Seemed to work OK overall. They seemed to back down pretty quickly once it was clear I wasn't for a second even contemplating signing at the first meeting. I actually told them about 5 minutes in, when we hit the first error, that I wasn't going to sign and the rest of the appointment was to find bugs and log them (can you tell I work in software development?). Re: Signing Contract on the Day 22Jun 15, 2009 1:08 pm Well done on standing your ground and not crumbling under their pressure to sign, albeit disapointing, it's the best decsion, good-luck with simonds. Re: Signing Contract on the Day 23Jun 15, 2009 1:09 pm Sounds like with Simmons you need to arrive first thing in the morning with calculator and packed lunch. Casually read the entire contract while checking things and maybe be done by 5:00 pm. Else, repeat the next day!
