Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 10, 2009 8:55 pm Gday, Great forum, I am about to embark on the the building journey at Bribie Island, have got a lot of useful information from others on here. I need some recommendations for builders on the Northern side of Brisbane or Sunshine Coast. I am at the quoting stage, have all the plans and specs ready to go. Would love to hear from anyone who has a builder they would recommend around that area, Cheers Krusty Re: Builder Recomendations -North Brisbane 2Jun 10, 2009 11:44 pm Check out the North Lakes Display Village and you'll see alot of SEQ Builders on Display there! Congratulations and good luck! I chose Plantation as I felt for what we wanted and for what we were paying no other builder could match in the end. We weren't too fusy about little changes so it didn't work out too expensive. Their plans too imho were by far the best - but of course I'm biased! Although I do know of countless people taking Plantation plans to other builders and getting them to build the same thing hehe. Looked at EVERY other builder very, very closely. Didn't go with Plantation as I spoke to too many people that had been shafted by them. They also weren't able to provide me with any positive customer references, this is a major alarm bell for me. Anyone should be able to find someone that can provide a positive solicited investment. Plantation couldn't do this. Good value and were very flexible with plan changes. They were the only company that could give us the particular aspect for our living areas.Cost for changes was reasonable in most cases. Except the spa bath, I reckon they are ripping us off. Site costs appear a little high as well compared to others, but not ridiculous. Have just received Stylmaster contract, which took months to get finalised. They are very slow in the administration department. I am certain their build will be slow because they have contracted around 270 days in total for the build time, which is outrageous for a single level, single story house. Adenbrook were also very good but more expensive. If I had a slightly bigger budget I would have selected them. PM me if you want any more info. Re: Builder Recomendations -North Brisbane 4Jun 13, 2009 5:00 pm We went with Hallmark beacuse their prices are v. reasonable and they seem to be well spoken of. Apart from a bout of communication issues between sales outpost and HQ when modifying our plan, we can't complain overall as we have managed to stick within budget. Our land slopes to the back by over 2m and our site costs did not exceed $9,000 which includes an 8m long retaining wall.. The other thing is that their display homes are not very glamorous - what you see is what you get in the standard packages. Just hoping that our build with them will be a relatively smooth experience. I think you will do very well with them, probably have your house finished before ours. Good for you! Re: Builder Recomendations -North Brisbane 6Jun 13, 2009 6:50 pm Thanks EmptyV - I think that Hallmark and Stylemaster have pretty similar offerings and pretty much as good each other. Wishing you the best with your build.. Building the 22sq Ashton Re: Builder Recomendations -North Brisbane 7Jun 14, 2009 9:22 am Thanks for the responses, have had a look and was hoping to find a one off small builder , I like to be able to talk to the builder- I see communication as the biggest issue in resolving issues, couldn't get that with the volume builders. Not the way I initially wanted to go but in the end I hope I will have some sanity left. Any recommendations appreciated, will keep you posted. Cheers Krusty Re: Builder Recomendations -North Brisbane 8Jun 14, 2009 9:28 am I understand. We looked very closely at P.D. Burns builders. I think they only do 20-30 homes per year. They have a designer that you can sit down with and essentially design exactly the house you want. First consultation was free and they sent us a basic design layout. Quality of houses are very good, they build alot on Bribie Island and can give you lots of references to talk to. Definately recommend you talk to them. The price will be a bit higher per sqm than the volume builders, but you are paying more for what personal service brings. Re: Builder Recomendations -North Brisbane 9Jun 14, 2009 2:52 pm Hi krusty, We are building with Hepner family homes. They are based at Woodford and they build all around this area. They have done a couple of nice homes on Bribie, which they showed us through when we were still looking. So far they have been really great and customer service is excellent. We havent started our build yet as we are still waiting for our land to settle (come on council!!). They are a fa mily builder and through out the whole designing process we have dealt with the builder himself. Our house is a modern single level brick design based off one of their concept plans that we modified, but I think they will build any style. We found out about them by seeing a house being built and decided to give them a call. Since then we have received a few recommendations and met a couple of people who built with them, and all glowing reports so far. Other small local builders we have heard good things about are Peter Bucket. We have some family friends who built their house at Mt Mee with him. We have also seen a very nice place built in this area, which was done by NHR Design Built Homes. Dont know what they are like but this house is obviously custom designed, which sounds like thats what your after. Hope this helps! We have looked at a lot of builders in this area, so if you want to know any more info, would be happy to share. Just send me a private msg. Cheers, Sue Re: Builder Recomendations -North Brisbane 10Sep 26, 2009 7:53 pm Hi Krusty, We have just commenced building with Stylmaster and my wife and I are constantly regretting we ever did. We should have stuck to Perry Homes on an independent builder willing to take the time to talk, and communicate with us, not just signing us up and then forget about us. This is our second home we are building & the experience we had with our first does not compare... all I can suggest is beware of the larger builders!!! Re: Builder Recomendations -North Brisbane 11Sep 26, 2009 9:59 pm We have just finished building with Grandview at Delaneys Creek - they are based in Maroochydore. My parents are also building with them at Noosa. Can't recommend them highly enough. Not sure if they build at Bribie, but it would be no further for them then where I am.
