Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 09, 2009 11:20 pm We are having Boral Ripponlea bricks which we are happy with. Here is a pic of a house in Albury with them: http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t271/diamondzoe/IMGA0240.jpg See the black spots here and there? well l would like more of them. The Ripponlea is actually the straight version of the now discontinued Glenrowan tumbled brick and those bricks had heaps of dark spots throughout the bricks. So my question is, seeing that Boral make the bricks once the builder orders them (l presume?) and each batch can come up different to the next one, is it possible to ask the builder to request Boral to put more dark spots in the bricks when they are making our batch of bricks? Sorry if it's a silly question, but if you dont ask you don't know! Re: Possible silly question about bricks 2Jun 09, 2009 11:46 pm Good question, its not that silly!! But I wouldnt know the answer to it! Sorry.. Built the Atlantique 37 Mk2 with Carlisle Homes - WE'RE IN!! I wouldn't think they would put in more of the darker bricks just coz you want them.. though I don't work at a brick place, so couldn't tell ya Built with New Generation (Summit Homes) We own land!... with a slab on it! Plus a shell of a house with stuff inside ! Re: Possible silly question about bricks 4Jun 10, 2009 7:58 am Hi Thorney No, they dont just make the brick when a bricky orders them. Bricks are made in huge quantities and stored in yards, then when you order them you get what ever batch they come out of. With me they sent me a sample and gave me addresses to look at which I did. Then I ordered the bricks but............. In between me doing that and them placing the order the company had used all them and had made a new batch, which will most prop last for months or even years, and mine came from the new batch which looked nothing like the old batch! But apparantly anyone else ordering them they will look like mine until they run out again and have to make more. The batch depends on where they get the clay from and the colour of it and then all other variables that come into play. So I would check if you are getting a current batch then if so it will look like the latest houses you see or if you are getting a new batch ask to see if a house has been done in this batch or ask for a current sample. The only other thing you could maybe do is..... Order extra bricks and as the brickies to sort through as their building to include more of the spot ones, this could work out expensive though as the brickies would charge more to sort. Know where your going in life............... you may already be there Re: Possible silly question about bricks 5Jun 10, 2009 9:46 am Being a quarried material where the ground contents will change slightly as the cut goes deeper, there will be slight differences between various batches, even if classed as the same brick product. The amount of back spots will depend on how much of that particular part was included in the mix which then gets fired giving off those burnt spots. Re: Possible silly question about bricks 6Jun 10, 2009 9:42 pm Thanks for your responses guys, it's very interesting to learn the finer details of the making bricks process Ok so l just got to see what my batch comes up like (could be from the same batch as Mundie's mansions?)....l'm sure l'll be happy with them yes it is possible but watch for noise transmission, decouple as best you can. Maybe wider top and bottom plates with 70mm studs to allow the cabinet to be recessed fully 1 6636 You can wash over existing pavers with 10% solution of water and hydrochloric acid, then wash off. The acid will provide for required bond key with new concrete. 1 36960 0 9809 |
