Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Our First Ever Home 21Jun 11, 2009 6:59 pm Hey nickbell, your plan looks great , and I agree with the suggestions so far. Think about taking your plans to tile and carpet shops to see what they can do for you. We thought our prices were good through our builder, but when we went to choose the carpet we found that the choices were very limited, and I'm not a fan of brown (all the samples were). Good luck Re: Our First Ever Home 22Jun 16, 2009 9:30 pm Just wondering what you guys recommend in terms of downlights. At this stage I'm thinking we will only put in two or three, in a row above the island bench in kitchen. Any ideas of other places that may be useful for them? Re: Our First Ever Home 23Jun 16, 2009 10:15 pm hi nickbell i have chosen to only have 7 downlights in my home (22 square house) - 3 in the kitchen, and four in the home theatre for a bit of mood lighting there is no need to go all out with down lights - the less there are in your home the more special they may seem - there are also plenty of beautiful pendants and oyster lights out there that can help give your home some character love your plan, very nice! perfect for a small family 2014 - Prepping to build the Soho 4 with Plantation homes, industrial style 2009 - Built the Brampton with Coral Homes viewtopic.php?f=31&t=15399&start=280 Re: Our First Ever Home 24Jul 26, 2009 11:41 am Hi Nickbell, Me and my husband are also building the columbia, in Kilmore. I finished uni last year and he is currently doing casual work. You should try planning a wedding while in uni. LOL had wedding on sat and following monday commenced clinicals so I know how stressful it can get. We've added a few things to ours: * Entry door from garage * Roller door at rear of garage * Extra sliding door at meals, so have both * Extended cupboards in bed 2 and 3 into empty wall space * Overhead cupboards * Gone with DFH flooring plan as $5448 for all carpet and tiling was cheap when asking other stoors, then upgraded carpet for around $600-700. * We also added extra light switch in garage at entry door * Extra pan drawers in kitchen All in all these extras werent that much extra, in lieu of removal of other materials. Very happy with the cost. How is everything going? When do you sign your contract? Stefanie Hope all is going well with everything so far, need some hope. Re: Our First Ever Home 26Sep 01, 2009 3:41 pm Hey guys, Just thought I would share a bit of an update on where we are at with it all. Currently still waiting on our contract after a couple of months. Seems like it is taking forever but DFH ensure it will arrive in the next week or two. A bit annoying is the fact that my partners brother is building at the moment with DFH as well and they just got their contract back today, despite being a few weeks behind us in terms of signing their estimate etc. Anyway it shouldn't be too far off which is positive. How is your build progressing dilla? Love to hear how it is all travelling. Where abouts in Bendigo are you building? We signed ours tonight - very excited. Land is due to settle at the end of October, we have a january start date in our contract, but speaking to the builder tonight he seems to think there's a chance they might even be able to start in november! we're off to choose tiles/bricks/colorbond/carpets/paint etc etc etc some time next week. we really have no idea what we're doing lol. Seems that when you build through a big company they help you with knowing when you should be doing what, but we're at a bit of a loose end and doing things all over the place! Hope ur contracts come soon, it's so good to get them out of the way! makes it all seem much more real! Re: Our First Ever Home 28Sep 09, 2009 10:02 am Just found your thread, we're building in Bendigo too, but with M**tricon. Good luck with the contract signing and make sure you post pics Builder: Me*tricon Homes Design: Freedom Range, Santorini 26 Handover Date: 12th February 2010 Homeone Thread: viewtopic.php?t=22216 Blogspot: http://www.evolvedmonkey-santorini26.blogspot.com Contract has finally arrived....well sort of 29Sep 20, 2009 12:10 pm Finally we have received our contract, albeit a fast-tracked version of our contract that has just standard drawings in it, not our final customised drawings. Positive thing is though that the price was pretty much spot on equal to the estimate which is a real positive. Just a few little things to add that we forgot earlier on and it will be all signed this week! Have had a colour appointment to which made the whole thing feel a tough closer to being actually started, can't wait to finally get everything sorted and start getting some actual building done. Re: Our First Ever Home 30Sep 20, 2009 2:13 pm that's great news! when are you expecting them to start? how did your colour selection go? have you got any pics for us?
