Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 07, 2009 10:23 pm Hi guys, We have got our plans back for our house!!! All is great! Just a question about insulation to help prevent sounds! The 3rd bedroom is behind the family room where the TV will be. One of our kids will be in this room so we are thinking of putting some sort of insulation in the walls to minimise the sound from the Tv going into the bedroom so we dont have to have to tv extremely quiet at night! Has anyone done this? We were thinking of buying it ourselves from somewhere and installing it when the plaster is to be put on! Does anyone know if this will work? Thanks Re: insulation to prevent sound.... advice plz! 2Jun 07, 2009 10:30 pm Dacron or sound board , sound board is more dense than normal and thicker. I'm hoping it works! Builder is doing ours, it was part of our package, so not sure of the cost... but I saw an ad for Bunnings (or maybe it was Thrifty link) today that showed different types of insulation, they had a sound type one. In essence, yep... I'm sure it will work. Apparently not too hard to do yourself. Saw pics on here a while back of someone who DIYed it... and if I remember correctly wasn't too expensive. Did that help? Hope so buzz Re: insulation to prevent sound.... advice plz! 5Jun 07, 2009 11:08 pm There were a few forum members who did the batts DIY We added sound batts in our HT walls, around all the internal plumbing insulation in roofs for HT and some roof area between downstairs and upstairs We used the CSR sound batts - Got it from bowens U get them in 450mm and 600mm sizes - Each pack costed about 20$ It was easy to install them - Especially if u get the right size that fits ur frame spacing.
