Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 06, 2009 6:28 pm Hi all, Our land will be titled by next week and it seems that the developer have finished their construction today. I went this morning to check out the land it seems that there is no footpath in front of the house !! I contacted the developer and they say that some streets only have one footpath on one side of the road I couldn't believe what they say, so I decided to ask my fellow Home1 members. Is it true that some streets don't have footpaths in them on both sides ? Cheers Re: No footpath in front of the house !! 2Jun 06, 2009 6:37 pm We are building in an established area, so not quite the same situation as yours, but we don't have fiootpaths in our street either. Just lots of grass, which we quite like. The good thing about our side of the road is there are no street lights, so when looking at the house from across the road, it's clean view. Cheers Re: No footpath in front of the house !! 5Jun 06, 2009 7:48 pm Hi iTalk, I see this as a positive for you... our house now has no footpath, just one on the other side of the road and it is great with no dog walkers etc as serge mentioned. It makes the front yard feel soooo much bigger. The down side is that it is often used by guests (ours and others) as a parking strip and the lawn gets torn up with the cars when leaving causing it all to look a bit messy. Just something to be mindful of.... but who has gr8 lawn these days anyway (legally that is!). MH&LS Re: No footpath in front of the house !! 7Jun 06, 2009 8:43 pm Judie We live in (and are building one street over) an established area that has no footpaths. I like it this way. It retains more of its bush feeling. Judie Totally agree Judie. It would be only the really old inner city suburbs that have two paths. So the one path thing has been happening for nearly 50-70 years plus. Maybe because it is "W.A." we have to "w"ait a "w"hile for the other side to get done Re: No footpath in front of the house !! 10Jun 07, 2009 8:32 pm We only have foot paths on one side of the road where I currently live, aswell as all the other houses that I have lived in. I would much prefer to not have a foot path in front of my house *goes off to check plans* Our house thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=18335 Re: No footpath in front of the house !! 12Jun 07, 2009 9:41 pm Makes it tough for mums to push a pram/stroller without traffic conflicts. ...and part of the reason I stood for council... Why make blocks so small a foot path is out of the question. That is not the issue on my estate. The blocks are massive. Mine is 1639m2 and is considered mid sized. And people do walk with pushers and strollers on the side of the road. The roads are wide and there's no conflict. I guess the idea was to make it feel more old fashioned, relaxed and country. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: No footpath in front of the house !! 14Jun 07, 2009 10:06 pm Lucky you... We too are lucky (8 acres) but not the crew in the tiny subdivisions 350sq mtrs and the developers were not going to stump up for more POS. And we are 300k from Perth so quite rural one would think, but not with scunggy developers Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Re: No footpath in front of the house !! 15Jun 07, 2009 11:14 pm Is that the one that the local family did? The subdivided family land and named a heap of roads after their family history? or something like that. Re: No footpath in front of the house !! 16Jun 07, 2009 11:18 pm Hmm worse, they named the streets after animals and mammals that succumed to the big machinery You know, we used to see ducks, egrits and all manner of life... Now just cars and wineries. Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Re: No footpath in front of the house !! 17Jun 07, 2009 11:23 pm My current home has no footpaths. The only street in my area with footpaths is the main road that goes through my little estate but my street has no footpaths on either side. I actually prefer that. My new home is the same deal. Only footpaths on the main road, however I am situated on the main road so I do have a footpath in front of my house. Re: No footpath in front of the house !! 19Jun 07, 2009 11:37 pm The reason why I prefer no footpaths is purely related to preferring how houses look without a footpath, as selfish as that may sound. When you have a footpath in front of a house, to me it looks like there is no separation between that and that house unless the person has erected a fence along the line of the footpath and their home.
