Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Prevent water meter from being stolen 21Jan 30, 2014 12:10 am i was charged $359 for replacing stolen water meter, the house is still under construction and they just told me today which it happened on 21/1 confirmed by the water corp and replaced by them on 24/1. Not sure it has been reported to the police as well. this is Wellard area, so be careful for this activity. what about the building construction insurance? shouldn't the builder and I be able to lodge claim application? Re: Prevent water meter from being stolen 22Jan 30, 2014 10:01 am It doesn't sound fair to me that you have to pay for the meter. I would challenge it and see what they say, builders maybe just chance their arms, assuming most people will just pay no questions asked. I will be challenging it if i get a bill! I just got information the builder did not file police report of this incident. Theft is a crime and it should be reported to the police no matter what items being stolen. I would have done it sooner if they reported to me. I also believe this should be covered by the Insurance company as it's still under construction and the house is not handed over to us. Re: Prevent water meter from being stolen 25Jan 30, 2014 4:31 pm we don't have a meter but it was taken before we purchased the land, when I spoke to SA water they said you actually get 1 free replacement then they will charge or what you can do is lodge a police report for a stolen meter and then they would replace it at no charge. not sure if this is the same else where but its valid for SA Re: Prevent water meter from being stolen 26Feb 03, 2014 4:00 pm spoke with senior manager of my builder (plunkett/domain homes), he said that the water meter was supplied by Water Corp and it's not their responsibility to replace nor the insurance does not cover it. This is unacceptable and they are unprofessional. I found out from water corp the fee was around $261 dollar to replace a water meter which almost $100 less than what the builder charged me. Still waiting for the Variation of Contract to be mailed in this regards.
