Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 05, 2009 9:48 am Hi All, New to this very useful site We are building with Coral homes - the Stradbroke 251 and have just had our block scraped and levelled in readiness for the piers to be installed. We are responsible for the retaining walls required on our cut side - no worries! I am just wondering if anyone can tell me if what we've been quoted for timber retaining seems fair? Coral are not doing the retaining!! We've got a 34 meter run at 1.0m high using 75mm timber - cost is 5700. Just wondering if these seems Ok. Thanks, Re: Timber Retaining Walls 3Jun 05, 2009 10:38 am lostcause Depends on the strength rating of the Timber. Hardwood/Treated Pine etc. Seems okay for a 1m high wall. Is that the only quote you got? I think this is for hardwood. Unfortuantely, this is the only quote...no-one else seemed interested plus time is of the essence. Re: Timber Retaining Walls 4Jun 05, 2009 11:17 am Sounds on the cheaper side to me. Our retaining walls were all over 1.5 metres high but the sides costs over $20000, the rear $7500, and the front one $5500. That did not include filling the area so allow for that too. Fi has moved in!! Re: Timber Retaining Walls 5Jun 05, 2009 12:18 pm Price sounds about right. I was quoted $5,900 for 30m of retaining walls 1m in height. 75mm timber H4 treated pine. Alternatively I have been quoted $6600 for galvanised steel uprights with 100mm sleepers. Both quotes include excavation, drainage and plastic sheeting behind the wall. Brittany - is the tradie looking to retire from your job? Cheaper to build a brick wall than what you have been quoted - seems excessively high. looks ok to me, round logs retaining walls are better than sleeper walls, more even preservative treatment and stronger since they include the whole tree and not just part… 1 2601 Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 15907 Render your bathroom walls, two opinions versus the one, makes you wonder. 3 6062 |
