Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 04, 2009 8:45 pm Unfortunately I can't find the time to set up a blog but might be able to write in this thread regularly.
At May 7th of this year we finally signed the contract for our Modified Hayman and at the moment we are waiting for a adjusted Site Plan to be send to us bu HO. After review the paperwork can go to the Private Certifier which Coral Homes uses. Last Monday we applied for a Plumbing & Drainage Certificate at the local Plumbing Council, we payed $945 for a 4-bedroom house with 12 fixtures. The Watertech Black-Water System is already in place and the Certificate was included in the apllication together with a letter of the soiltester that the system (septic tank, sandfilter and disposal area is big enough for the house, 10 people and 3 fixtures in the already excisiting shed. At the end of Februari 2008 we became owner of 2 hectares of old farmland. Originally part of more than 100 hectare at the Nort side of Tewantin, QLD. land.jpg The first thing we did was getting a bulldozer in to clear trees and create a driveway around the nice old farm Dam to the spot where we wanted the shed. Dam.jpg We managed to find a company who was specialised in building metal framed houses and sheds because the shed we had ordered would be to big for us to do it ourselves. With the prices of the caravan parks going up all the time we looked forward to put the caravan on the land but wanted to wait until the shed was build. We had bought the caravan in order to travel Australia and living a luxurous, retired live but ended up buying land and building all kind of structures on it. Hahahaha. Not sure why but better go on with anyway. LivingtheLife.jpg The shed was completed in September and we have just ended the battle with the 30 degree slope on the West site of the shed. For a long time we did not know what to do with the deeply cut site but the weather (0ver 800 mm rain) of the last three months has teached us that it was a big mistake to do nothing about it for so long. West side shed.jpg In November 2008 we started looking for a house and were very much in favour of a Steel Frame house, The Wildernis. They modified the floorplan for us but the price came out too high, $150,000 and would have to double that amount to get the house build. Furthermore we did not like the idea handling two contracts at the same time. One with NUSteel and one with a builder. Too complicated for us so we decided to go for a volume builder. After looking at Glenview, Morcraft and Perry Homes we choose Coral's Hayman because we liked the playfulness of the Bay windows. I think you call them that? Coral Bay Windows.jpg The only acreage home Coral offers is the Baroness but we fell in love with the open plan of the Hayman. We choose the 279 and added 4 meters in the middle in order to make the house suitable for 5 acres. Although the modified house is not as stretched as the Wildernis or Morcraft's Grandview (20 instead of 28 meters long) we hope we have done enough to prevend the house from looking rediculous. The plans have been approved in less then 8 working days. Re: Building the Modified Hayman 5Jul 03, 2009 8:30 pm That's great news Annelies. I look forward to following your build. Good luck Re: Building the Modified Hayman 6Jul 05, 2009 7:16 am Thanks Joles and Renee, we are excited but suddenly feel the pressure of having a lot of things to do. The whole process took forever and then suddenly action is on your doorstep. I'm sure everybody on this forum knows what I am talking about. Re: Building the Modified Hayman 7Jul 22, 2009 9:01 pm We have finished our tile selection last Monday but unfortunately I can't post a photo because it keeps saying BOARD ATTACHEMENT QUOTA HAS BEEN REACHED. Yesterday was the same situation so I might try my luck for a third time tomorrow. We ended up with a blue floor in the Ensuite, Black in Bathroom and Toilet and light Grey in the Laundry. All are the same type mat Cloudy Ceramic 330 x 330 mm and for all walls a 300 x 450 mm White, blue veined High Gloss Ceramic. This one is going to be tiled horizontally. The feature tile for the Bathroom and Toilet is going to be a signal RED 75 x 400mm Gloss Italian tile that will zigzag from one side of the space to the other side from ceiling to ceiling, including the floor. Difficult to explain but hopefully the board will allow me to post some scans tomorrow. In the toilet we designed something similar and the wall there will be tiled up to 1200 mm. No inspiration regarding the Ensuite I'm afraid, but hopefully that will come in time. This afternoon we have done the colour selection in Kawana. It took about two hours and there were no real surprises. Our choices: Brick: RICE, Roof Tiles: BARRAMUNDI, Gutters + Fascia + Garage Door and Front Door + wood work: DEEP OCEAN, Eaves + Down Pipes: SURF MIST, Window/SLD frames: Clear Anodised. When that happens to be very costly the second choice will be black. All the windows at the North and West side of the house will be tinted Dark Grey. Windows: Ensuite and Bathroom both CLEAR. Front door:XN6, Internal doors: DENMARK Internal: walls: WHISPER WHITE, Woodwork and doors: CHINA WHITE Vinyl SLD in Robes: ATLANTIS CHALK matching CHINA WHITE. The SLDs of WIR and Robe in BED 3 are MIRROR. Kitchen: Bench Top: BLUE PEARL GRANITE, Laminate: STIPPLE SEAL. We would have liked a High Gloss kitchen but in two-pack the paint colour would not match Stipple Seal, so we dropped the gloss. We still have to choose a colour for the glass Splashback Ensuite: Bench Top: Diamond Gloss Blue Pearl, Vanity: Wilsonart LUXOR Bathroom: Bench Top: Diamond Gloss Blue Pearl, Vanity: Wilsonart Silver Pearl, satin finish. Re: Building the Modified Hayman 8Jul 23, 2009 2:22 pm Hi Annelies, First of all check out this thread viewtopic.php?f=13&t=1272 it helped me with how to post photos. Everyone gets that quota has been reached jargon. You will need to join a photo hosting website like photobucket or webshots..but it's worth it when you'll be able to post your photo's. Good luck with that it does take some trial and error to work it out. Secondly, it sounds like you've picked some really nice colours there (I need pics to be able to visualise better) but they sound great anyway. Must be getting so exciting for you at the moment? Do you have a start date yet? Re: Building the Modified Hayman 9Jul 27, 2009 7:24 am Hi Renee Thanks for the tip, I didn't realise that I had to do more than just follow the Post Reply direction. I'll give photobucket a go when I got time. Still working long hours on the land to get the mess left after ithe installation of the water tanks cleaned up. We finally entered the dry period and the clay is getting harder and harder to manage so I have to hurry up. We don't have a start date yet and are waiting for the variences to confirm but that might be the last hurdle, I guess and we can't wait to have a home, yippie. Re: Building the Modified Hayman 10Jul 27, 2009 7:41 am Oh how exciting, I didn't realise you had a thread. Congrats on doing all of your colour selections. It's such a massive decision and such a relief once it's done. Can't wait to see your tile selections Re: Building the Modified Hayman 11Aug 03, 2009 9:30 pm Thanks Rebekah, I am still working on the appearance and I think that I finally figured out how to download images from Photobucket. I think it goes like this? Yeah, done !!! Please do not pay any attention to the surroundings where the Tiles are displayed. They are on the floor of the shed, next to the tractor. The Floorplan of the Hayman 310m2 Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We choose the Hayman because hubby fell in love with the big Bay Windows in the Games Room and Bed 1. In order to make the house suitable (in appearance) for an acreage we added 4 extra meters to the centre of the house to make it longer. We swopped the Front Door and the Laundry and moved the Ensuite 1 meter towards the Activity Room to make Bed 1 bigger. The double Garage has become a Single One and we changed a couple of walls into Dwarff Walls. It has become totally Open Living now. Re: Building the Modified Hayman 14Aug 03, 2009 9:49 pm it worked annelies! do you have any pics of your laminate samples with the tiles? 2014 - Prepping to build the Soho 4 with Plantation homes, industrial style 2009 - Built the Brampton with Coral Homes viewtopic.php?f=31&t=15399&start=280 Re: Building the Modified Hayman 16Aug 03, 2009 10:03 pm omg annelies, it is huge love the bay windows - very suitable for acreage and will bring heaps of light into the house and really allow you take advantage of your beautiful (undisturbed ) views oh yeah, and that is one massive laundry!!! 2014 - Prepping to build the Soho 4 with Plantation homes, industrial style 2009 - Built the Brampton with Coral Homes viewtopic.php?f=31&t=15399&start=280 Re: Building the Modified Hayman 17Aug 04, 2009 9:12 am Hi Annelies, what a great plan. I love what you've done with it and the bay windows will look awesome!! Your tiles will look terrific too Well done getting your photo's up! Exciting times ahead for you guys! Can't wait to hear more Re: Building the Modified Hayman 18Aug 05, 2009 6:44 pm Thanks Jess and Renee, yeah we're quite happy with the plan although hubby has great difficulty with setting up the Lounge as a 7.2 Home Theatre. It is very very open so sound will go everywhere but that is only a minor problem compared to heating / cooling. Where to put the split Airo's? Still, we love what we did and will find a solution for all this. For the Bathroom and Ensuite we choose Speedheat under tile heating, but we haven't bought the KIT yet. The last two days I had lot of conversations with all kind of people from Coral and everything has been reviewed and approved by the Area Manager and some other people. This afternoon I was going to learn the Start Date but I did not hear the phone ringing because I was outside mulching. Hopefully they'll try again tomorrow or send me an e-mail. Re: Building the Modified Hayman, start date known ! 19Aug 05, 2009 7:25 pm Yeah, we got a start date!!! The equipment will roll in on Friday the 21st of August to do the site cut. After this news early this morning our newly appointed SS rang around Noon. He must be new in the job because he did the soil tests on our land last December. Funny job swop, isn't it? Anyway he sounded allright and we discussed our DIY requests regarding Insulation, Under Tile Heating and Home Theatre cabling. None would be a problem and he was very helpful. The first meeting will be om the 21st at 7.30 Am and after that he will be on site every Wednesday do discuss whatever is necessary. He told us that he expected the roof to be up at 4 weeks after the 21st so that we would know when to order the Insulation and cables. We already bought 2x10 mtrs of HDMI cable and two extensions as we have to bridge quite a lot of meters fro the Games Room to the Lounge. So thats in and the rest will follow. I am really happy now and i'LL start see the silver lining around the cloud that is called PATIENCE. Thanks for your reply. I will just wait and see I guess.
