Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Building the Modified Hayman, first sign of start! 22Aug 13, 2009 9:22 pm Today we saw the first sign that something is going to happen on our land. When we came home there was a portable toilet sitting under a Gum Tree. The truck driver that had delivered it obviously had lost his way on our acreage, had ploughed through my freshly digged drainage system and nearly missed the Sand Filter of the Sewerage System . To prevend more damage we now have closed off the drive way to the shed in a way that it must be clear for any truck driver that they have to use the second one in order to get to the building site. Photo's will follow but Photobucket is terribly slow with my connection. Other things we did in this last week: 1 - we decided on having three Aircon Split Systems in Lounge, Bed 1 and Bed 3 and are waiting for a quote. 2 - we bought 26 x 6.2m2 Acoustic Insulation at Bunnings, coming in next week, 3 - we are going to have Coldbuster's Under Tile Heating in the Ensuite and Bathroom because we like warm feet in winter, 4 - we have been investigating how to connect the three Water Tanks to the house at The Pumphouse and got a quote on all the stuff we need. All we have to do now is to talk to the Plumber (issue 4) and Sparky (issue 1 and 3) of Coral and find out what their conditions are to connect it all. Pfffff, HEADACHE Re: Building the Modified Hayman 23Aug 13, 2009 10:25 pm omg annelies headache sound about right...and i thought i was stressin 2014 - Prepping to build the Soho 4 with Plantation homes, industrial style 2009 - Built the Brampton with Coral Homes viewtopic.php?f=31&t=15399&start=280 Re: Building the Modified Hayman 24Aug 31, 2009 9:12 pm Hi I am back, had terrible problems with our wireless Vodafone connection and we are not out of the woods yet. So no pictures I'm afraid because downloading in Photobucket takes ages. Just a short upgrade of our building process after we started on Friday August 21st. That day the bulldozer came and delivered the building patch in two hours. Our SS arrived right on time at 7.30 Am and left around 10. He expects a building time of 16 weeks because of the size of the house. Hopefully we're in before Christmas. Monday and Tuesday the slab was set out again and Wednesday the two Plumbers worked all day to get the pipes in ground. The Plumber gave us a quote of $250 to connect our three water tanks to the storm pipes. On our request he devided the house in three areas which each will drain on a seperate tank. This because the roof area is quite big and we think that one pipe can not handle a decent down poor. He didn't ask any extras for connecting the Treatment Plant to the house. The Electricians were on site for about two hours and we have asked them for a quote for two Split Inverter Aircons. Also for the wiring of the Under Tile Heating we're going to have in the bathrooms. These two systems arrived by mail today. Thursday and Friday the slab was prepared by three man and was inspected around 3.30 Pm on Friday. Unfortunately, we were not at home at that time but everything looks fine anyway. This morning we expected the concreters but the SS rang and told me that they will come tomorrow due to todays weather forecast. Light rain was expected but we had a couple of drops only. Also the frame will be delivered tomorrow afternoon and the carpenters should be in on Wednesday, but that might be posponed to Thursday. We might have a roof around 15 September. Until so far everything goes smoothly and there is lots of communication with Coral Homes. The SS comes in twice a week and is very hands on and everybody on site is easy to approach. We talk to the men on a regular basis because they need Electricity from our shed. We also provide drink water which is our responsibility by contract. We take photos whenever we want and it is exciting to see that the house is taking shape. Now that the perimeter of the house is set out we are very happy that we added the extra 4 meters length to the plan. The original plan should have looked rediculously small on the 2 hectares. So we are crusing and I hope the same for everybody who reads this thread. Re: Building the Modified Hayman 25Aug 31, 2009 9:16 pm hey annelies, thats great news! hope you get your slab tommorrow, i had my site start today pics in a sec 2014 - Prepping to build the Soho 4 with Plantation homes, industrial style 2009 - Built the Brampton with Coral Homes viewtopic.php?f=31&t=15399&start=280 Re: Building the Modified Hayman 26Aug 31, 2009 9:22 pm Definitely sounds like you're cruising Annelies Congrats....it sounds like you've got a lot on your plate to stress about Can't wait to see some pics..... Re: Building the Modified Hayman 28Sep 01, 2009 7:31 pm Thanks Jess, Renee and Kim I am sorry but I don't have time to read your threads at the moment, I know that you had your site cut today, Jess. Exciting isn't it? We had the concreters in today, 8 men and a huge concrete pump. 7 Hours and 7 or 8 concrete trucks later (I lost count somewhere) we've got a beautiful slab. The surface is as smooth as anything and the edges are beautifully finished. This afternoon we have been spraying the slab with water until sun set and we'll hope that it will dry slowly and in the right way. Around 4 this afternoon a truck from Brisbane arrived with the frame and we might see some carpenters tomorrow although the slab has just been poured. They might skip a day and start on Thursday, I'm not sure. I followed the discussion about allowing the slab to dry properly before setting up the frame but I think that we are in the builder's hand on this. Re: Building the Modified Hayman 30Sep 03, 2009 1:48 pm Awesome looking slab Annelies! It's coming along nicely... Re: Building the Modified Hayman 31Sep 03, 2009 2:26 pm Thanks Renee, yeah, we are very happy with the result. At the moment I am behind my laptop killing time while waiting for the SS and the Carpenters to show up on site. The SS rang yesterday with a new planning for the coming days en week. This afternoon the Carpenters will start building the frame after the Roof Thrusses and A-frames were delivered from Brendale, Brisbane yesterday around Noon. The Carpenters will be on site until Monday, they will even work this Saterday. Tuesday the Roof has been planned and Wednesday we'll see the Electrician at 2 PM, to discuss extra work. It goes all so quickly, really amazing. It is so exciting to live on site, we see everybody coming and going again (in a big cloud of dust) and we feel very involved without annoying anyone, I hope . When there are men on site I've got a table sitting under a big GUM tree, holding containers of drinking water, as we are obliged by contract, and some fruit cake . Thanks for your reply. I will just wait and see I guess.
