Unfortunately for the building industry that kick in the *** is a dream scenario. What they really have is a freight train coming the other way, fast -> Rising unemployment and the end of the First Home Builders grant. Both should coincide at about the same time, about the end of this year and the start of next year.. By about mid-next year, most of the FHOB benefit will have finished as the construction finishes.
The sad thing is that there are lots of very honest contractors and builders that will suffer because of this.
The good thing is that it should force them to drive up customer service and value in order to compete for a smaller pool of customer money.
The recent super contribution changes may help drive more investors towards property, but I don't see this as being enough to keep the industry buoyant.
Then again, what do I know? Freaking armchair economists!
