Browse Forums Building A New House Re: steel frame builder in Sydney 2Jun 03, 2009 9:03 pm Hi tt Why are you building using a steel frame? We have just sigend a contract for a new house here in Sydney and we are using H2F treated timber. If the reason is for termite protection you should look into this as it is not a big price adder. Regards Dan C Re: steel frame builder in Sydney 3Jun 03, 2009 10:16 pm Is a H2F frame treated with a chemical.. are there any long term health effects living amongst a chemically treated frame... what happens to the cut ends of the timbers are they retreated on site.... the green frames I see around the building sites look very pale... some of the trusses are almost white..I don't think any of the bracing timbers are treated. somehow I think those horrible hungry termites would find away through... A treated timber frame is not in the same league as a steel frame... remember the Sydney Harbour Bridge was built in steel and it will probably stand forever.... McDonald Jones Homes built our 2 homes with steel frames and trusses and we didn't pay extra money... I see their ads say they now build in Sydney Life is an enjoyment, enjoy it Re: steel frame builder in Sydney 4Jun 03, 2009 10:59 pm I am in Sydney Upper north on termite hill. H2F is treated with long acting synthetic pyrethroid insecticides: permethrin (applied using a natural oil base such as linseed oil) and bifenthrin (using a water base) and is warranted for 25 years subject to installation as per manufacturers recommendations. This means that any cut ends are to be butted against treated timber. It is as big a concern as using fly spray. My spec for the house is for all timbers to be H2F treated, (Bluepine), all joists and trusses to be treated and floor sheets upstairs. I am also putting in Granit Gard and the slab is a monolithic design with 25 MPa Concrete. I am hoping that the little blighters don't find their way in to test it all. Regards Dan C Re: steel frame builder in Sydney 5Jun 05, 2009 3:30 pm Hi Dan c the reason, I am going for steel frame, is termite protection. I think steel frame is a bit dearer than H2F frame treated but it is chemical free. I am looking for a builder. May I ask which builder you go with for your H2F frame treated ? Hanson61 mentioned McDonald Jones Homes. Could you please let me know if they are good and any advice is appreciated. Cheers, tt Hi I am wanting some opinions about the build of a steel shed I am going to get one about 4.5 x 2.5 m steel shed and the height will be about 2.3-2.4m high The one I am… 0 14551 This is 100% true.
