Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Henley in Melbourne 41Jun 06, 2007 1:00 pm Casa,
If you look at Briecait original post adrian has formatted it to make it easier to read and left a comment at the base of mine and briecaits posts! This is an issue when the posts are modified.. I orignally posted to briecaits posts good luck and please hit enter occasionally (see the formattng in my post above) and adrian came along and found the enter key for us....hence the post! Matt Re: Henley in Melbourne 42Jun 07, 2007 5:02 pm It's great for people to hear these stories so they can make informed choices when choosing a builder. Sorry to hear about your problems.
I hope Henley doesn't get all legal on the forum like my builder did and force them to have their name forever bleeped out just because people express honest facts about their experience with them. Re: Henley in Melbourne 43Jun 07, 2007 5:54 pm dazcla,
I have a test for builders to cross off your list. Put their name on the forum and if it gets bleeped out, remove them from your list. Any builder that is not open to scrutiny doesn't deserve my business. Cheers, Casa Re: Henley in Melbourne 44Jun 07, 2007 8:46 pm Corusant Hennig Casa, Henley like the other bad builders (especially in metropolitan areas) stay in business because J. Citizen who lives in Dandenong does not know briecait and their problems or the issues that others are having in that area etc... We are building with Henley and we have had no problems at all, everything is running smoothly. I don't believe you should judge a builders reputation on a few peoples experiences. I know of quite a few people on here who have and who are currently building with Henley and they have had no problems at all which is quite the opposite to what has been said recently about Henley. I disagree !! Given the poor treatment this fellow has received, how can you guarantee to the next person that they won't face the same? You cannot. This stuff should NOT be so hit and miss. These people are only interested in making money and will use any means they can to maximise profits. The lockup with no front door and locks is a sad but striking example. And the ******* workmanship to me means that the company does not believe in quality checks/control nor do they employ skilled and competent workers/contractors all the time. Once again, maximising profits !!! Re: Henley in Melbourne 45Jun 07, 2007 10:42 pm My apologies, it wasn't my intention to portray Henley as a bad builder.
The point that I was trying to get across was that in the Metro areas, a poor builder (anyone - not just the volume builders) can get as much work as they want because the areas is so big. In the country areas the bad builders are run out of town because everyone knows and talks to everyone else. There are no secrets in a small town. Again, no offence intended. Comment 46Jun 09, 2007 11:54 am Thanks for the support Casa2.
I found it surprising that what seems to be one of the most commented builders in the forum had no reviews (good nor bad). It is of course up to the individual whether they want to share their experience or not though. Best Regards Re: Henley in Melbourne 47Jun 13, 2007 11:05 am Wow I found this site through a friend...
If only I knew about this site months ago... No bad news for me, building with Henley and have decided on the Carnaby. Settling the block of land withing this month and will sign building contract with Henley short after. Will post and let you know how I go... Re: Henley in Melbourne 50Jun 18, 2007 10:38 am I tell you, if henley gets another thing wrong im going to fully crack the ****!
Isnt it in a business best interest, that if they f**k up then they do everything to make sure it doesnt happen again? And make sure the customer is happy? Not henley. We didnt go see our house for a week because we were sick of seeing nothing done and when it was there was always mistakes. So when i went and had a look i almost died in shock to see that they had started all the cut in work. Problem is they have stuffed up the colour and have also painted our skirting boards the same fricking colour. Painter was there, told him and he replied with well thats what i have been told to do. He wouldnt stop and call henley to double check now would he. I am so frigging annoyed. I know that the building process is frustrating and stressfull, but this is just ridiculous. I wish we hadnt gone with them, i would do anything to not have to deat with them again! FFS, the colours should be on your contract and usually they would simply give a copy of the relevant page to the tradesman. Same with piping, plumbing and everything else. Did you check that the painter had the right paperwork with him? Or did you show him you contract copy? Hanley are a mess if this is what's going on. The supervisors must be useless and over loaded, and their whole system of managing clients' contracts is clearly not working. All the best in getting to the finish line French Gal. Hopefully non of your defects prove hard to fix. Hopefully non of your defects prove hard to fix. We went through all our paper work and it clearly says that the woodwork is white canvas and not bamboo cream. When we called our administrator he had no idea about the painting, which shows the supervisor isnt doing is job corectly. Our two front windows have been stuffed up, going to prove a realy hard job to fix. Isnt a contract there to stop all these things happening? Like do i have to contact a superior person at Henley and place a complaint? This is the most expensive thing you buy in a lifetime, cant they do there job right? We havent even met our new site supervisor. It makes me laught, the plateres came back, but didnt fully finish the job. Its nuts i tell you. Re: Henley in Melbourne 53Jun 19, 2007 11:31 am FG - we had major problems like this with our builder M3tricon.
I ended up dealing with our site supervisors boss and then after awhile I had to deal the boss's boss in order to get things done properly. When our painter was doing the wrong thing, like only staining the outside of the windows ?????? I made him stop, got the supervisor on the phone and made the painter talk to him. You just have to take charge and basically supervise the job yourself. It's wrong, but don't trust them if you want it right. Good Luck with it. Re: Henley in Melbourne 54Jun 19, 2007 2:00 pm This type of stuff scares me.
I am building with Clarendon in Melbourne. Yet to get to the nitty gritty - just had the slab done on Saturday, and the wood has been delivered yesterday. The piers were done prior to the slab and I have a surveyor report saying the job was approved. But I do know the supervisor has quite a few houses on his plate, so I hope I won't end up with the same kind of problems. So far it's been great. Everything was pre ordered by the supervisor and is happening fast. Practically every day something is going on. But I will soon see if everything else is on the money. For example, things I am thinking about are ceiling height - I have upgraded from 2.59m to 2.7m. Will the tradies have the right info. I have no reason to think otherwise, but after reading this kinds of things re Henley and Me3con, it makes you wonder, doesn't it... Re: Henley in Melbourne 55Jun 20, 2007 6:40 am The thing is, our administrator (who is nicer than the first one we had) wont give us the supervisors number. Which i guess in a way is to protect the supervisor from getting harrased all day long, but had we had his number, we could have called him on saturday and told him what the painter was doing, and saved them both a bit of work.
Now we had a look at the house yesterday and are very happy to report that they have fixed the windows, and the paint colour is perfect. The skirting hasnt been fixed yet, but im sure they will fix that. Now hopefully they stay on the ball and go great guns from here. So yeah thats it for now. Oh also i belive one of the Henley guys is patrolling the board, either that or its a haox. But any hooo, i just want this damend house finished, with no faults and with everything that we wanted. Im sure ill be back to vent at some point. FG Re: Henley in Melbourne 56Jun 20, 2007 6:49 am oh i also have a question for you guys,
Im confused as to what henley considers a wet area. when they say they include tile skirting in all wet areas, wouldnt you think thats the bathroom, toilet and laundry? Because in our bathrooms they have put two walls with normal skirting and two without. Wouldnt you think the whole bathroom should be done in tile skirting? The toilet has normal skirting same as the laundry. The toilet has normal skirting same as the laundry. You are correct. Bathroom, toilets and laundry are all considered wet areas and all should have a row of skirting tiles on all walls. Re: Henley in Melbourne 58Jun 20, 2007 7:15 am Hi
Wet areas are - laundry, toilet, ensuite & bathroom. Yes I would epect those to have a tiled skirting. The trades are nomads and have their own ideas - your supervisor should be on top of this. Ed If I write "I" please read "We"! Be good. Re: Henley in Melbourne 59Jun 20, 2007 7:47 am french_gal I tell you, if henley gets another thing wrong im going to fully crack the ****! You gotta be carefull harassing the tradies like that, when we built some time ago, a person a few blocks down from us was harassing the tradies like what your doing and their builder threatened to stop construction if he put another foot on the building site. Technically you are not allowed on the building site until handover unless accompanied by a supervisor. Technically you are not allowed on the building site until handover unless accompanied by a supervisor. I am not Harrasing anyone. If the supervisor was doing his job right we wouldnt have to check the site every day. and we dont go inside the premises. You can see everything from outside. And as for only being alowed on the site with the supervisor, well lets just say that we have had only one site inspection with our old supervisor and have not even been intoduced nor been called by our new supervisor. We thought well we will leave it a week and not go see the place and when we went to have a look there was another mistake done. So as i see it, if i didnt go and see it till the end, then what would my poor little house look like. How many little mistakes would have turned into big ones? We dont call and harras our administrator, we send him a polite email letting him know what we have noticed, and then he gets back to us when he see's fit. No point calling him cause you can never get him on the phone. Hi, If you give a set of criteria as to what means 'good' to you, it'll give others prompts to respond.
