Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 28, 2009 10:15 pm Greetings!! We are building our first home and just booked our appointments for tender, colour, tiles & contract The procedure mentioned tile appointment first followed by colour appointment, however we've booked it the other way around. My logic is that it's easier to pick the tiles, once the colour of walls, benchtops, cupboards, etc instead of the other way around. What do you all think?? I think those appointments will be full on Re: COLOUR or TILES appointment first? 2May 28, 2009 10:28 pm We did colours then tiles. Picked colours went to tiles, then came back and changed colours Probably the better way I would imagine, that way you can bring all your colours in to the tiles and see if they match or not. Built with Eden Brae Now building with Fairmont Homes NSW Re: COLOUR or TILES appointment first? 3May 28, 2009 10:30 pm Our builder gets us to do the colour selections at contract stage and then the tile selection at frame stage. The rationale behind leaving the tile appointment until later is because the tile stock changes rapidly. If you selected your tiles any further out, there's a good chance they may be discontinued by the time your builder needs to order them. Re: COLOUR or TILES appointment first? 4May 28, 2009 10:32 pm We had our colour appointment first too (not our choice, it was the only times we could go) It is fine if you already know what tiles you'll be having and have had a look at the tile place but tiles can change the whole colour scheme of the room and are more limited in choice than bench colours etc so make sure you know what you want and that its available! They can be full on but if you go a few times have a look and have your selections in your head before you go it will be a breeze! Re: COLOUR or TILES appointment first? 6May 31, 2009 5:01 pm We had our colour appointment first, but I had already picked the tiles and had samples with me. That way I could tie everything together. The tile appointment was then mainly for getting the price to tile to the ceiling. Judie Re: COLOUR or TILES appointment first? 7May 31, 2009 9:52 pm Mine is abit different as I did my tiles appointment first. Then I bring the tiles selection to the colours appointment. When I did my tiles appointment, I sort of already knew what kind of internal colours that I will be going wtih, so i guess that sort of helps me choosing the floor tiles. But when I did go to my colours appointment, I did change my wall tiles selection Hope this helps. Williams Landing Stage 10 - Kingwell Neighbourhood Re: COLOUR or TILES appointment first? 8May 31, 2009 9:58 pm We did our tiles first. Mainly because we had 4 ensuites and 2 powder rooms as well as the laundry. So our wall colours as well as other selections all flowed from these. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: COLOUR or TILES appointment first? 9May 31, 2009 10:03 pm Tiles first for me. Although I had an idea of what I'd be doing, I liked getting the base (floor colour) first then basing everything around that. We are having floor tiles throughout the living areas so it was important to get the tiles just right in our case. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. I wanted the splasback tile in the bathrooms/laundry to match the laminate cupboard colour. There was a lot less tile choice, so it was easier to match the laminate to the tile. I also found it easier to see the "full picture" when I had the tile samples at the colour appt. Blog: http://bluemistkids.blogspot.com "Never be afraid to try something new.
