Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 26, 2009 10:16 am Hello all!!! I'm just wondering if any of you guys here have tried building your own alfresco before? Do you know of any good instructional sites on how to build an alfresco? And what wood is best at the moment? I'm toggling between Jarrah or Merbau decking. Looking for something red!!! Any other wood that you would recommend that's hardy and long lasting as well?? Any pictures of your alfresco or your own DIY "alfresco projects" (if any) would be appreciated. Thanks guys!! Worth a dig through to see what you can find that is useful. From memory, there's a couple there with huge amounts of info on what to buy and how to do it. Re: Building an Alfresco 4Jun 02, 2009 4:02 pm Thanks guys... might just check them out. If you can find me anything on the Outdoor Living area, that'll be great tho. Do you have photos so far CiNnY? I thought an alfresco was an area under the actual roofline and a pergola was an add on structure Blog: http://bluemistkids.blogspot.com "Never be afraid to try something new. Re: Building an Alfresco 7Jun 02, 2009 10:48 pm Sorry, it's just an old joke from an old thread that kept making the rounds.. was just in a silly mood. You are right, an alfresco is an under roof structure and a pergola is roofless.. There has been a few interesting threads on the subject of alfresco vs patio, which I was following a few months ago. That was when deciding to whether to have an alfresco done by builder or just a slab (for costs reasons) and then a patio roof put in later. We have gone for just the slab and now shopping around for patio covers, we find the whole thing wont be much cheaper than getting the builder to do the alfresco which in my view looks much better...
