Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 27, 2007 9:10 pm Hi
We are new to this forum & thank you for any replies. We are thinking of building with a Hebel product as opposed to traditional brick however a couple of builders and architects have told us that Hebel is not a proven system and is prone to cracking at the joints + joint swelling. Naturally we want to avoid this down the track and our builder could use brick instead of Hebel (although he prefers Hebel). The idea of Hebel attracts us due to its insultation qualities etc. We are building a 2 story house in Adelaide using Hebel 75 mm autoclaved aerated concrete for the lower floor, and a light weight polystyrene render panel to the upper floor. Has anyone used Hebel - how does it hold up over time? Any good/bad feedback would be helpful. Those in favour of the product tell us it has been used in Europe since WW2 but independent advice would be great. Cheers p.s. great forum BTW. Beetle Re: Merits of Hebel 2Apr 28, 2007 9:03 am G'day Beetle,I haven't used Hebel myself but am familiar with it as some of the builders I sub contract for use it extensively for housing.Been a bricklayer by trade I suppose I should be against it but it does has it advantages.I've heard the same thing about the joints cracking etc but haven't seen much of that here and we're in the middle of the driest spell I"ve ever seen.I've also seen the poly foam stuff and have actually rendered over this and it also seems to be ok.I know the main local supplier of hebel here and he stands by the product (when installed correctly of course)I don't know about not been proven as I think Hebel has been used around here for quite afew years now but you should check out the CSR website.I 'm sure they will tell you everything good about it.How does it cost out in relation to rendered brick or block?Regards Terry Re: Merits of Hebel 3Apr 28, 2007 2:31 pm Hi Terry1
The cost for hebel is a bit more expensive than traditional brick + rendering, however our builder is putting in good quality fittings. Cost for hebel is currently about $1300 sqm for a two story house incl. reverse cycle aircon, footings and council costs. Brick veneer prices vary but for a similar house it is approx. $1200 sqm. Thank for the feedback. Cheers Beetle I was looking at different options for a fence for my build and Hebel PowerFence seemed like a good option (one of the criteria was a solid wall look). However, I don't… 0 5906 1 6638 1000000% definitely add insulation. I have in my home and it makes a big difference minimising sound transfer. Insulation is pretty cheap and definitely worth it 2 6211 |
