Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 25, 2009 2:45 pm We are building on a corner block in spring farm and have the choice of which address we would like. My problem is that I don't like the address that the house faces onto and would like to choose the other street name - it's an easier one for people to remember too. I am just curious to what everyone else has done and where they are putting their letter boxes. Re: Corner Blocks - Choosing your address. 2May 25, 2009 2:49 pm we didn't get the choice but would have gone with the one the house faces onto anyway as it makes it easier... 2nd build here we come in Whittlesea! https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=92617 1st Build - Henley - Cooper in Doreen! I'm the same we were told we had to be Eminence Boulevard which is what we would have chosen anyway as the house faces Eminence and also its the main road in the estate. Also the other street was Westbourne Drive and I liked Eminence better... 2nd build here we come in Whittlesea! https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=92617 1st Build - Henley - Cooper in Doreen! I love Honeywood Drive We have the choice of 57 Minorca Circuit (which the house faces onto) or 1 Belmont Avenue. I love the second one better. I think my husband thinks I am mad, but I just think that our letters will have a better chance of arrival (due to our friend remembering it easier) and it just sounds better. We are thinking of putting in a rendered letterbox on the corner of the front yard so it looks nice too. Re: Corner Blocks - Choosing your address. 6May 25, 2009 4:24 pm Before you make a decision have a think about the ease/difficulty the emergency services might have finding you. It may make it a bit more difficult to locate you if your house doesn't face the street it is addressed to. Re: Corner Blocks - Choosing your address. 7May 25, 2009 4:49 pm Our block is a strange one in a way. It faces one street although driveway access is on another and its not really a corner block yet we get to choose the address. I think your address should be where your driveway is as most cases, that's where the letterbox will be. In saying that however, is the house facing this angle also? As others have mentioned it also comes down to name too. Our house faces Bluewing Ct although driveway access is via Songlark Place, which i prefer. Usually the letter box is at the front of the house (even if the driveway is on the side) so this means your letter box is on your street address - less confusion all round, I think you will regret choosing the side street as your address in the long run. Re: Corner Blocks - Choosing your address. 9May 25, 2009 5:36 pm I'd be surprised if you had a choice...your address is determined from the plan of subdivision...your lot number is converted into a street number and that's it...as far as emergency services, AusPost, titles office, utilities, etc...your address was cast in stone when it was titled... mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: Corner Blocks - Choosing your address. 10May 25, 2009 7:00 pm I'd go with 1 Belmont. Its a pain having to spell your street name and you can always tell the emergency services/pizza delivery you are on the corner of the two streets - probably more helpful than being the 57th house of many. in the scheme of things - your postie will work it out pretty fast, the ambo's will find you and you will have to spell and quote your address a billion times so go with what you want - the rest of the world can just fall into line! 2011 Home Sweet Home Handover 03 September 2010 PCI 27August 2010 Plumber 20August 2010 Electrician 19August 2010 Painting 04 August 2010 Cabinets 13Jul2010 Lockup 23June Frame 20April slab 1Mar10 Re: Corner Blocks - Choosing your address. 11May 25, 2009 8:07 pm Quote: and you can always tell the emergency services/pizza delivery you are on the corner of the two streets Not trying to be pedantic here - really I'm not - but in the panic of an emergency this is exactly the sort of thing people forget to tell the 000 operator Sure, no big deal if your pizza is a tad cold - and you probably wont forget when you are calm and collected ringing for takeaway - but minutes the ambos or fire brigade waste checking for the right house could be crucial. Re: Corner Blocks - Choosing your address. 12May 25, 2009 9:17 pm It doesn't matter how basic your street name is you will still have to spell it to people. People are often ummm....idiots. We have a common last name and easy street name and the minute I dont spell them they are wrong. Cool thanks guys for all of your views on the subject. We actually did get the option of choosing which address we wanted. It's a little bit confusing to begin with as our paperwork has both addresses. But I know that we will get there in the end. We have chosen the secondary street name as our address, but I know that it won't be that confusing as this is the street that you have to come up to get to the front of our house. Plus we are going to put a big rendered letterbox on the corner of our block to make it clear to everyone that needs to know. I guess it really just comes down to personal preference Re: Corner Blocks - Choosing your address. 15May 25, 2009 11:41 pm The rental we are in at the moment faces on to X Pl but the steet address is 14 Y Pl (garage/driveway is there). To make it worse, the letterbox is on X Pl (front of house) but has the Y street number on it (14). So its bloody confusing, pizza delivery boys hate finding us and I always address expensive mail as 14 Y Pl (Corner Y & X Pl) Bald Hills, QLD, 4036. Pick the position which gets better sun. PS - You do get to choose. My parents did when the built their house years ago. They went for the Main Court address and house position rather than the smaller Court address/position. Al & Caitie- Building the Hamilton 278 (Coral) at Narangba Re: Corner Blocks - Choosing your address. 16Jun 10, 2009 8:44 pm We get a choice aswell. We are going for ...... Boulevard instead of ............... Street, mainly because the blvd is a very short easy word and my husband thinks it sounds "more classy" In saying that, our garage is in a laneway to the back of the house and the mailbox has to be there too (estate development condition). We will therefore have a different address and postal address....which is a bit annoying. Re: Corner Blocks - Choosing your address. 17Jul 22, 2009 12:54 am Hi there, can I ask a silly question? At what point were you given the choice of street address? On the title it is just Lot *** of Blah Estate The crossover is on the major road but I'd prefer for purely asthetics the Crt Address. We are currently renting a corner house and although the driveway and Letter box are on one street the actual postal address is the other drive. I'd love to know at what point we are given the chance to choose. The bank have prepared everything in the major road address yet the RE agent on the initial offer put the crt address, all the contracts have been prepared in the major road. The land settles in 9 days. Even if someone can advise where I could call to find out exactly what the address will be?? Council maybe? Even the RE agent couldn't tell me at the time. Cheers Tash Re: Corner Blocks - Choosing your address. 18Jul 22, 2009 11:11 pm Our Estate told us we could have either street as our address...you probably need to tell them so the land title has the right address on it? I hate our street name (that our house faces) but I have spent too many hours of my life in back streets trying to find houses that are not numbered correctly or are in another street to the actual street address so I decided to be kind to visitors! It was tempting not to have to spell the silly street name out for the rest of my life! *Built with Gemmill Homes in WA* Slab - 1st June 2009 Plate Height - 17th June 2009 Lock Up - 18th August 2009 PCI - 5th October 2009 Hand Over - 15th Oct 2009 https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20844 Those span tables can be pushed a little for a low deck if you dont mind a little flex.
