Browse Forums Building A New House Re: For those of you who have gone for higher ceilngs 2May 24, 2009 4:40 pm I increased the height, but left the doors and windows standard-sized. I didn't feel it was necessary, and the higher doors look **** in my opinion. Re: For those of you who have gone for higher ceilngs 3May 24, 2009 4:47 pm I have also gone for standard windows and doors - didn't want handles that were too high. The higher ceilings are a great effect and give a fantastic, spacious feel. JL Re: For those of you who have gone for higher ceilngs 4May 24, 2009 4:47 pm I didnt increase the door height and my ceilings are 2700mm My builder auto made my windows larger when the height of the ceiling was changed. thats why i had to pay $6600 to go from standard height ceilings to 2700. However, with the house we are actually building in the display home they had higher ceilings and normal doors - we didn't even notice until we were doing the tender - so we've opted to save a few thousand and just have the higher ceilings and normal doors - it looks fine! Cheers Bec Re: For those of you who have gone for higher ceilngs 6May 24, 2009 4:56 pm I wish we had gone for 3m ceilings in the entrance and living areas. Even the 2.7m ceilings looks tiny when you add the bulkhead Re: For those of you who have gone for higher ceilngs 7May 24, 2009 5:00 pm Hey there jolie. We had to increase our ceiling height to 2700m due to estate covenants, and we ended up getting higher doors as well. We thought the standard doors looked a little funny with the ceilings so high, but we left the windows at the standard size the builder had them. All we asked them to do was to make sure the windows were situated a little higher than where they would put them on a house with normal height ceilings so it didnt look like they were too low in the wall. Re: For those of you who have gone for higher ceilngs 8May 24, 2009 5:04 pm I have gone for higher ceilings (2700mm) and doors (2340mm). All internal openings (bulkheads over open doorways) have also been raised to 2400mm. The higher doors give you easier access to all the extra storage space you will have in your wardrobes because your ceilings are higher. You'll be able to put extra shelving in the minor wardrobes and linen cupboards because you'll have easier access with the higher doors. Donuts raised her ceiling but didn't put higher doors and she is spewing because she can't access all that extra storage space efficiently. Check out this thread and do a search, there's been heaps and heaps of threads on this topic recently. viewtopic.php?f=23&t=17978&hilit=+higher+ceilings I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: For those of you who have gone for higher ceilngs 9May 24, 2009 5:35 pm 2700 ceilings with std doors/windows here. Higher ceiling to make house look bigger (esp coz most of my rooms are on the small side). Already live in a house with 2700 ceilings and std doors/windows. Definitely have no problems with it, so was a very easy decision to keep the same in the new house. Chris Re: For those of you who have gone for higher ceilngs 11May 24, 2009 6:37 pm Higher ceilings, increased the door heights. No need to change windows...what for? They're all different heights anyway.
As for higher doors looking "***" (whatever that means), I think the lower doors look silly. Each to their own. Plus, we rented a house with 2700 ceilings and standard doors and just try getting a tall piece of furniture, made to fit your room, through one of those doors - especially if it's located off a hallway. It was a breeze moving our stuff in here. The front door, we left as standard height, but added a glass highlight, so visually, it matches the rest. houseofl I have also gone for standard windows and doors - didn't want handles that were too high. ...huh? Why would the handles be placed higher? Excuse me if I come across as crabby. I'm sick as a dog and my tolerance and patience have disappeared...just ask the chick at KFC who gave me crap service this arvo. Re: For those of you who have gone for higher ceilngs 12May 24, 2009 6:43 pm A friend who built her house with the bigger doors put her handles higher to balance a bit - looked like the house of giants. Re: For those of you who have gone for higher ceilngs 13May 24, 2009 6:44 pm houseofl A friend who built her house with the bigger doors put her handles higher to balance a bit - looked like the house of giants. Seriously? How funny. Ours are all at standard height. They look fine. Re: For those of you who have gone for higher ceilngs 14May 24, 2009 6:51 pm Yep seriously, felt like an ant..... And personally I think either height door looks fine, I think the ceiling height is the most important. But we upgraded all our doors to higher doors. I think higher doors look better with higher ceilings, it finishes off that spacious look. I find that higher ceiling with normal doors looks funny, but like Kek said, each to their own Idiots are fun, that's why there is one in every village! - Dr. House - Re: For those of you who have gone for higher ceilngs 17May 24, 2009 7:42 pm 2700 for us, with reg window & door heights (2100, I think?) Would have liked 2400, but you have to draw a $$$ line somewhere.
