Just wondering whether there are any negatives to three-phase at all - except for the initial cost ?
No downside apart from the initial cost. You pay the same for power whether you take it from one phase, two phases or all three.

This is a newly developed residential area West of Melbourne, approx 30km from Melbourne. It has been cited as the fastest growing corridor in Victoria. Lots of 1st home owners setting up residence here. There are no overhead power lines. But I do see manholes on the ground which have ELECTRICAL written on it. So it must be underground cabling. Logically, it would make sense to have the 4 wires set up underground for future capacity needs, and seeing as this area is growing so quickly. I just hope the connection fee to getting 3 phase is not cost prohibitive for us. I've heard the power company may need to upgrade stuff at the transformer or something. Hope that's not too expensive. Thanks for your help. If you know of anything else, please let us know. Does anyone in this forum stay in the Point Cook area, ie not Sanctuary lakes? Cheers. 1 62023 Hello All 🙂 We are planning to start our journey of construction our first home.
