Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 21, 2009 3:30 pm Hi, Building at The Ponds and wondering if anyone can advise at to what can be done with the trees on the nature strip. We have three on the nature strip and two planter boxes on the road and there doesn't seem to be a place to put the driveway. Thinking that we may need to move one, but the one we want to move has a small (15 - 20cm) round purple hole cover next to it. Under the cover is what looks like a water pipe. Could we put a driveway over it and allow access to the hole? Thanks There isn't much you can't fix with some grease or a hammer Re: Driveway @ The Ponds 2May 21, 2009 3:59 pm From my understanding, you can move the trees on the nature strip within a reasonable distance to accommodate the construction of the driveway, but you can't move the "street" trees. I know of neighbours in The Ponds who have had to re-orientate their floor plan so that their driveway dodges the trees in the street. Personally, I think the street trees are a hazard!!! You should be able to pour your driveway around the hole, so long as the hole can still be accessed. Your land contract will tell you exactly what it is and if your house includes the driveway, the builder should be able to tell you what can be done. Re: Driveway @ The Ponds 3May 21, 2009 7:56 pm Hi, Pretty sure any purple pipes are recycled water pipes. At least thats what they were labelled near my block the other day. The full design guidelines do have something about your driveway being a minimum distance from a street tree might be 1.5 mtrs . They will have to let you get a driveway in somewhere. There own design guidelines say you have to have one. Guess we'll draw in the driveway where we want it and see what happens from there Will keep posted on developments There isn't much you can't fix with some grease or a hammer Re: Driveway @ The Ponds 5Aug 18, 2010 4:15 pm All, Well, the house is done and time has come for the driveway to go in. Have talked with Sydney Water and BCC, but no-one can tell me what to do with this purple thing. It looks like a drip tap for the tree that has been removed. There are others next to other trees, but this one needs to go before driveway can be poured... Any ideas? We have had similar issues with utilities & street trees & the location of the our driveway. We have to get our driveway between a small green electricity pillar which is not on our boundary but inside it & also one of those frustrating road tree bays which leaves very little room for our driveway. We also relocated a Telstra pit that was put right in the middle of where our driveway should be, although I do believe this was before any cabling was put into the pit. Alternatively we had a wonderful man from Blacktown council come out & to discuss our driveway options & how we could fit one in & still comply with all regulations. So if you cant have the purple thing relocated, call blacktown council about your driveway issue & options. We have found everyone to be really helpful & patient in finding a solution to our problems. Also, a heads up to anyone battling those problematic road tree bays, I believe these can actually be relocated. If you have a block that is still in its early stages (not yet tarred) you should be able to apply to have these shifted without much issue. We WISH we knew this little fact a lot earlier as it would have saved us so many problems, but we believed what we were initially told that “under no circumstances can they be moved”. If your tree bay is already in it may be too late, but not impossible… for a hefty price of course. If you don’t ask – you don’t get. To my understanding early saw cuts are to control shrinkage cracks, so doing them now would be pointless. Control joints may reduce ugly cracking during periods of soil… 3 9799 Hi all I need a guidance on how far I need to space expansion joints in the concrete driveway and its type (keyway/foam.) Contraction joints are at 3m max for a 125 slab. Thanks 0 10892 |
