Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 18, 2009 7:58 pm Hi all Finally got my drawings back today. I would love to hear any comments both good & bad about my plan. Please feel free to say what you like & don’t like about King Willys palace. I’ve got a few ideas but not sure: I was thinking of making bedroom 4, 600mm wider eg 4.6 x 3.6m. To put a pool table in it. Would 4.6 x 3.6m be OK for a pool room? Cut off that sticking out kitchen bench so it’s in line with the wall. But my fridge will stick out of the kitchen area, any suggestions? I think the hot water system needs to be moved, it’s next to my bed head. I’ve got 450mm eaves all round & face S/E. Re: Plan came today, comments please. 2May 18, 2009 8:18 pm Nice plan King willy, love a house with eaves It would make sense to line the kitchen bench up with the wall but would that mean comprising some of the space. I am no pool guru but bed 4 looks like a great size to me. It is all very exciting isn't it!! Re: Plan came today, comments please. 3May 18, 2009 8:32 pm If Bed 4 is to be the pool room, maybe a sliding door to the alfresco so that it is 'part of the party'? I quite like the kitchen as is - makes it part of the meals/family (ie the person in the kitchen wouldn't feel cut off) - but this is a personal opinion of course! Looks good! Re: Plan came today, comments please. 4May 18, 2009 8:34 pm havingfun If Bed 4 is to be the pool room, maybe a sliding door to the alfresco so that it is 'part of the party'? looks good! I totally agree. It can always be turned into a spare room for guests too. I think the door to the alfresco is a great idea, opens it up for entertaining. I wish I could move it back, but what to do with the fridge? Thanks KW......... “It's just as unpleasant to get more than you bargain for as to get less” George Bernard Shaw. Re: Plan came today, comments please. 7May 18, 2009 9:01 pm Move the HWS, especially if its a heat pump. They do make some noise. I'd have it up near your laundry if possible. Love the idea of opening your pool room up onto the alfresco. Nice! Possumchops Now the proud owner of 3.7acres of Serenity. Colour selection completed! Soon to go to council. Re: Plan came today, comments please. 8May 18, 2009 9:06 pm I'd keep the kitchen bench as is. I really don't like the garage entry into the sitting room To fix, l would move the fridge to next to the other side of the pantry, and have the garage entry door where the fridge is now. Hence why you should keep the kitchen bench as it is, as you'll lose some if you move the fridge. Although l'm generally not keen on garage entry doors into kitchens, it is a better option that what you have now imho. I would whack some linen cupboards in along the meals area wall too The opening to the "pool room" from the alfresco gets a thumbs up from me too Re: Plan came today, comments please. 9May 18, 2009 9:07 pm I like how the kitchen goes all the way around if that makes sense And i agree with the others to add the sliding doors! And I would definately move the HWS further back toward the bathroom or laundry so you don't have to hear it! I also like how the laundry is tucked away nice and neatly in the corner so no body is really walking past it all the time Re: Plan came today, comments please. 10May 18, 2009 9:13 pm Re: Plan came today, comments please. 11May 18, 2009 9:15 pm I'd convert the WIR in bed 3 and 4 into built ins. Other than that... very niceeeeeee! Re: Plan came today, comments please. 12May 18, 2009 9:21 pm One thing I am qualified to comment on is the size of a pool room lol. We have a 6ft table and we measure it out on our plans, including having the room to cue properly. The required size came in at 5m x 4.5m, anything smaller and you would have to have the cue more upright or go for shorter ones. Or you could get a smaller pool table Blog: http://bluemistkids.blogspot.com "Never be afraid to try something new. Remember, amateurs built the ark, and professionals built the Titanic." Re: Plan came today, comments please. 13May 18, 2009 9:24 pm Thanks guys The hot water is definitely going to be moved. I can believe they put it there. If I open up bedroom 4 on to the Alfresco am I making my home a 3 bedroom with a pool room? I guess some bedrooms do open up on to an alfresco. That 820mm door in the sitting room has me concerned & it opens inward. I’ve put up a pix of a kitchen the sale as mine. What’s the verdict? Cut it off flush with the wall or leave it ? If you have to make all these decishions on you own its a bit difficult. Re: Plan came today, comments please. 14May 18, 2009 9:25 pm I wrote this big long post for your KW, but it didn't load up!!! bumma if brief, what I said was consider loosing WIR's in Bed 3&4 to just BIR's to Bed 3 (if you are making bed 4 a pool room) or put in Bed 4 too (either way, it will make pool room a bit bigger). I asked if you really needed a pool room, when you already had a home theatre, a formal sitting and a family room - leading onto an alfresco! haha and I thought the kitchen really needed a new layout to incorporate an internal door, and entering through the sitting room - no.... Also check your fridge space is big enough to take your fridge, it wouldn't fit mine! Annie A thankful person is a happy person. Other than that... very niceeeeeee! I think this would help with the extra space required for the pool table. Growing up at mum and dad's, one wall in particular had quite a few... dints to say the least... as there wasn't quite enough room to break! Re: Plan came today, comments please. 16May 18, 2009 9:30 pm If you need help with pool tables and the pool room ask bigred! Thats all he ever talks about!! Re: Plan came today, comments please. 18May 18, 2009 9:42 pm King willy I was thinking of making bedroom 4, 600mm wider eg 4.6 x 3.6m. To put a pool table in it. Would 4.6 x 3.6m be OK for a pool room? No. Let's go over the rules of a pool table room. You are required to have 1.52M surrounding the pool table for the standard-sized 57" cue. You can play with less than 1.52M, but this will require using a shorter cue, or a higher cue-elevation when playing shots. With higher cue-elevation, you are risking accuracy, because you can easily affect how much left/right english you put on the cue ball. Now, you can't even fit a 6 foot pool table in this room with the recommended space surround the table. However, if you were really serious about this pool table, I can give you some of the greatest news of all time... You have a Family/Meals room in your house with the dimensions of 5.4m (W) x 7.8m (L), you can fit a 12 Foot Snooker table in this house. However, you will need to be careful around the kitchen bench area. The actual recommended space for a 12 foot snooker table is 5.5m (W) x 7.3m (L), but you'll get away with 99% of shots if you're good at Snooker. Playing pool will be different, but snooker you'll be fine. Very rarely do you get a cue ball stuck against a cushion in snooker, unless you suck of course. But mate, you're in a kickass position here in which I wish I had the luxury of being in! Re: Plan came today, comments please. 19May 18, 2009 9:47 pm What did I tell ya!
