Your home is beautiful Can't believe everyone is getting their PCI dates!! viewtopic.php?f=31&t=22766 - my build thread! Time waits for no man. Unless that man is Chuck Norris. Re: mr smith&mrs_smiths building adventures-update pg11-PCI Date 227Feb 10, 2010 11:20 pm It's come along way since I saw a vacant block ... but what the fence is still broken Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Re: mr smith&mrs_smiths building adventures-update pg11-PCI Date 228Feb 12, 2010 12:55 pm PCI done! Only a few small things to fix, and they also didn't install the storm drain/grating for where the driveway meets with the house, so will get that done. Trying to organise handover for Friday next week!!!! Re: mr smith&mrs_smiths building adventures-update pg11-PCI Date 229Feb 12, 2010 1:10 pm Handover next week on Friday???? Fantastic!!! Have you started packing (sheesh... half my posts on here lately seem to be about bl00dy packing!!! ) Thats great that there's only small things that need to be fixed for you viewtopic.php?f=31&t=22766 - my build thread! Time waits for no man. Unless that man is Chuck Norris. Re: mr smith&mrs_smiths building adventures-update pg11-PCI Date 230Feb 12, 2010 4:28 pm No, we'll probably move in close to the 60 day limit. We are going to be painting, DIY flooring for laminate and tiles (not carpets), and pretty anything else we can. My aim is to paint the bedrooms and home theatre first so we can get carpet put in and then move in mr smith and then me bit by bit. We are with the parentals who aren't too fussed so we aren't in a rush. And I work FIFO with an 11 day on, 3 day off roster so me moving isn't too urgent as I live out of a suitcase for 3 days anyhow (That's probably not what you want to hear, is it? LOL) Are you moving yourself? That makes it harder, but better in a way. My parents moved lots because of my Dads work so moving was paid for but every move at least one thing was broken and things went missing.... Only one company actually were honest and fixed what they broke! Can't remember the name.... All I remember was that it was <blank> Bros and the writing was green on the side of the box. They had a strike too in the middle of the move (Port Hedland to Perth) but so we won't miss school made an exception for us. Re: mr smith&mrs_smiths building adventures-update pg11-PCI Date 231Feb 12, 2010 8:34 pm hope your move goes well. Get as much done as you can before you move in as once you are in the sheer joy of being there means things get left. We bought our entire house paints but haven't done any since moving in. Sigh. ran out of time before we moved because our flooring took an extra week due to additional coats required on our main flooring. We could also claim we are waiting for some maintenance repaint that will decimate our wall painting anyway. BUT .... can't say that about some areas that will not be being repainted by the builder. Re: mr smith&mrs_smiths building adventures-update pg11-PCI Date 232Feb 13, 2010 9:12 am Thank you That's what I'm planning to do. Even if we put the carpets in our dining tables/etc are going in the bedrooms so we have to put flooring down (which I want to paint first) so that way if we want to sit on things/etc we have good motivation Re: mr smith&mrs_smiths building adventures-update pg11-PCI Date 233Feb 23, 2010 1:50 pm We had handover on Friday!!! We have started to paint the sealer on the walls, and have picked most of the colours now except for the red. I can't seem to find what I want! I was going to take photos while we were painting but I was taping up literally all weekend, so you'll have to wait until next weekend We've also discovered another leak with the drain pipe in the kitchen sink - not a single one of the fittings are water tight! So someone is coming today to fix it. I have to say the plumbers we've had aren't really proving anything with us.... We're lucky the builder fixes things so fast! Re: mr smith&mrs_smiths building adventures-update pg12-Hand 234Mar 02, 2010 9:50 am We've sealed nearly all the walls (just a tiny bit in the pantry!), and mr smith started putting in the first of the soakwells. I'M GOING TO START PUTTING COLOUR ON THE WALLS ON FRIDAY!!!! Re: mr smith&mrs_smiths building adventures-update pg12-Hand 235Mar 27, 2010 12:15 pm Well we're slowly getting there with the painting! We have done 1/2 the house in the 1st coat of colour, and about 1/4 with the second coat. Here are some photos! Master bedroom - we're going to put a mirror on the feature wall between the bathroom and the room, and where the blue strip of painter's masking tape is we're going to put something there to separate the 2 colours. No idea what!!! But something. Maybe stencil on a pattern, or a piece of that decorated strips of wood, or maybe cut up the leftover feature files and turn it into strips, or maybe a strip of wall paper.... But something! Oh and the red is slightly darker in real life, for some reason the flash makes it look brighter. I'm going to stencil a damask pattern onto it since damask wallpaper is about $400 for a wall alone (that's no glue, etc) and a good quality stencil is $100 max. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Our carpet goes in on the Friday after Easter, our carpet is charcoal. Security screens go in on the Tuesday after Easter! And limestone for driveway and alfresco down next week! We are slowly getting there! It's far slower DIY, but that being said we have saved $1000s and it also spreads out the cost a lot more too. I'll have more photos once we get more done Re: mr smith&mrs_smiths building adventures-update pg12-DIY 236Jun 23, 2011 7:56 pm It's been a while since we've posted on here. We've been spending every waking moment doing something on the house or doing something for the wedding! The house still isn't finished (the to do list is still about 2 pages to go, better than before!) but we're getting there. It's quite slow doing it all DIY! So here's the tiling of our kitchen! The option was frosted glass for $1200, wooden doors for $1500 or 2 custom made blinds for only $400. The blinds are awesome as we can get heaps of light in when we're home and can tilt them up so we can see through but you can't see in: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Kitchen after flooring and blinds are in (sorry about the mess): Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Very early stages of the home theatre. I've made some Hollywood paintings up for the back wall (we've decided against the wall paper), we need to put lamps on the sides and little side tables. We've also got to get charcoal cushions for the couch: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Dining room: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Family room. The couch is a temporary one. We ended up getting majorly screwed over by the company we bought the couch we were supposed to have, so ended up selling the wrong one we received in the end and we're actually getting a custom made couch now because we are SO over it (we ordered the couch we never got nearly 2 years ago). I didn't realise that it's not so expensive to get one custom made. It's a bit less than double of the cheap couch we ordered but the warranties are fantastic, lifetime on the fabric, 15 years on the frame, 12 years on the foam and 10 years for the springs. So the couch will last a lot longer and it's not like we're planning to move. I'll definitely post pictures once we get it. Since taking this photo, we've put 3 black boys in middle (which is why there's not plants in the front, as we needed to use a tractor to do this) and even though we sprayed for weeds 3 times before planting, there is grass EVERYWHERE! We are fighting an endless battle killing it off.
