My building thread..viewtopic.php?f=31&t=19421 Brickies started 5/10 Re: Tinfish First build.. update! 450Jan 21, 2010 11:31 am Ok here goes the story after moving till now Took us 10 days to move everything to the new house from rental and to clean and handover the rental (still had to go again after key handover to do more cleaning at real estate agent request) Found some urgent plumbing problems at the new house and was fixed by the emergency contact the builder had given. Still a few minor things to be sorted. Already seeing some cornice cracks and such (which the building supervisor warned us was common and will be fixed in the 6 month inspection) Bought some new furniture like theater lounge, family lounge, dining, fridge, washer/dryer and dishwasher. Finally settled and put a deposit in for glass splash back yesterday! Settled on paint( hand made linen quarter from Dulux) and feature paint color (wistful Gem - metallic ) and started painting. Only completed areas are the theater and study ....ongoing are Master bedroom and open living area ( hope to finish it by the weekend) and do the bed 2, 3 and 4 on weekends (starting work next week after school holidays) Yes painting is a pain in the butt....especially when you have to do sealing of the walls (which stinks) and then 2 coats of paint ( not to mention how careful you have to prepare since flooring is already down!!) Finally, getting fence in today and hopefully Foxtel (from telstra who have been very tardy with keeping their appointments) Still looking at rangehoods and thinking of options on Lighting , landscaping and waiting on quotes for paving/limestone concrete around house (for path). After lot of headache thinking of lighting options (value, energy saving , looks etc etc) , handed over full charge of lighting to Hubby... SO yea...pictures will be posted once the house is more presentable - things are still in boxes and unpacked and taking over my open living area atm) Its a long journey even to settle on things you want to do to complete the house... It all takes so long, and you can't really unpack until the painting is done, otherwise everything gets paint on it We have been in our house for over a month now and I still have a bit of touch-up painting to do. I still haven't unpacked properly yet either! Mind you, I'm not rushing with the unpacking It will be worth it in the end We had energy saving downlights installed which are fantastic. Electrician charged $30/light and each light fitting cost $22. I can PM you the details if you want! I think we are going to wait till we can afford someone to do it. My sister says we would do a dogs breakfast job of it lol.. Probably right We would love to be able to afford to get it done before we move in but I don't think that's the case. It is a shame it's not included in it all.
